At-Home Learners
If the At-Home learning experience is proving to be too difficult, please know that we would love to have you back. If you are considering this transition back, it would be easiest with respect to instruction, grades, and student scheduling if this took place prior to October 14, the end of first quarter. If you decide to stay with At-Home Learning after the 1st quarter, we will be asking those students to remain in their Apex virtual courses until the end of the semester. However, please know that you can still return from At-School Learning after October 14th, but you will need to remain in your Apex virtual classes until the end of the 1st semester.
If returning to school is not feasible, we recommend that struggling At-Home Learners reduce their course load down to 2-3 Apex courses. Reducing and prioritizing classes might ease some of the cognitive load on students.
Lastly, please utilize the Mat-Su Virtual Learning tab on our website for additional resources.

Nurse Update
CTHS families and students, thank you for helping us navigate our school year safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our top priority is to ensure the safety of students, staff, and our community while keeping our doors open for in-person learning. Please continue to check your student(s) every morning prior to school for any COVID-19 symptoms and review the reminders below.
According to the Alaska Smart Start 2020 Guidelines followed by MSBSD, students who are ill must stay home from in-person school and must be sent home if they become ill at school, particularly if they have one or more COVID-19 symptoms:
· Fever or Chills
· Cough
· Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
· Congestion or runny nose
· Sore throat
· New loss of taste or smell
· Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
· Headache
· Muscle, joint, or body aches
· Fatigue
If your student has an illness with any one of the above symptoms, it is an automatic 10 day exclusion from in-person schooling, unless they have a negative COVID-19 test or a note from their medical provider stating that the symptoms are not COVID-19 related. Additionally, their symptoms need to have improved and they need to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines before they can return to in-person schooling. For more on these guidelines see KEEPING STUDENTS SAFE AND SCHOOLS OPEN provided by MSBSD.
Please take some time to review the helpful information below to ensure safety for all this school year and for decision making during the pandemic. If your student is absent from school for any reason, ensure they are reaching out to their teachers to arrange for make-up work.
The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) has a great new website, COVID-19: Guidance for the school year. Here you can find helpful information and resources to guide your family this school year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Included in this site is information regarding reducing your child’s risk, resources, travel quarantine guidelines, Q&A for parents, and guidance on setting up a circle of support if a caregiver should become ill in your family. There is also a link for parents to register for upcoming Caregiver COVID Schooling ECHOs which are very informative, especially if you are choosing to do at home learning this school year.
If you should have any questions, need clarifications on guidelines, or need to discuss an illness or quarantine for your student reach out to Nurse Sonja @ 907-352-0417 or by email @ sonja.mack@matsuk12.us.
