Welcome Back
Thank you to the family of Unit B student Sam Schick (Carol Snively and Amanda Schick) for the yard display to welcome us all back to school this week! Thank you also to Yard Party CoMO for adding in a ‘100 years’ sign and letting us enjoy the display for several extra days! Many families used the display as a photo opp. Our Ridgeway staff took a photo after school dismissed on the first day!

Principal's Pen
Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year! We are off to a great start!
It’s the end of the first week of school, and we are sending our weekly newsletter, ‘The Ridgeway RAP’ to you. Please watch for this email newsletter every Friday. You will find news and updates from our entire school. This is the place to find out what you need to know!
If you have been around Ridgeway for a while, you know that the first RAP means a note from me about morning arrival. Every day, we welcome 230 Ridgeway students to school and safely transfer students to Benton and Locust elementary schools with our bus transfer system. We need every family to help us make this go smoothly. There are two important parts of morning drop off when parents bring their children to school at Ridgeway:
1. Pull all the way forward.
2. Drop and go.
Read on for more detail:
- Students may arrive at school at 7:20. Please do not leave your child before that time. You might see Unit C students arriving for Safety Patrol responsibilities, but other students should not arrive early.
- All students should be dropped off in the morning along the front of the school on Sexton Road.
- Students need to be ready to get out of the car, and parents should remain in the car. This helps our line keep moving.
- Parents and buses should pull all the way forward. The front sidewalk can become congested very quickly. Please, please pull all the way forward!
- Families that need additional unloading time should pull out and turn right onto Grand Avenue. You can also circle the block and try again if you are having a slow morning.
- Please do not park across the street and cross Sexton at the crosswalk. It slows the flow of traffic.
- Develop routines with your child that you want to continue. Parting for children and parents at school in the morning should be quick. A quick wave and ‘see you tonight’ gets us all going in the morning. No need for long, elaborate rituals.
A few more important notes:
- Breakfast will be served until 7:40. Breakfast will not be available after this time. The kitchen will be cleaned up and lunch preparation begins right after breakfast ends.
- We do not accept deliveries for students. Please do not have anything delivered to school for your child.
Enjoy the weekend, love on your children, and we will see you on Monday!

Unit Notes
Unit A
Unit A has had a busy week of learning routines, expectations & making friends. Next week we will begin switching for Fundations and math classes.
We would like to include your family in our classroom as well. Please send a photo of you and your family by Friday, September 6. The photo should be 5x7 or smaller.
Unit B
We are so proud of our Unit B students for working hard to learn so many new routines. We want to remind students to bring their blue plastic Home-School folders every day. We need these as a way to save important papers and to get them to and from school.
Unit C
Our Unit C families are awesome! Thank you for sending in many needed classroom supplies! We are appreciative! Encourage your child to bring in a nutritious snack. We usually have snacks before 10:00 and lunch time is 12:25. Many Unit C friends are feeling quite hungry by then. Regarding water bottles, if possible, please do not send them with ice. Rattling ice is causing a distraction.
