BV Picture Day Tomorrow!
Note from the Principal
Good Evening Buena Vista Parents,
We are in full swing of learning and growing at Buena Vista.
Student Learning
Over the last two weeks, I have had the opportunity to join our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes and read one of my favorite books to them, Rufus Goes to School (K. Griswell) and share all about Rufus the pig who wants to go to school so he can learn to read. Our youngest learners showed me how they have been practicing being good learners and asking important questions about what they we are reading.
I have also had the opportunity to join Mr. Haller's Special Day Class and help them begin their school day with a morning walk and morning meeting and routines. We have also read quite a few books in Mr. Haller's class A House for Hermit Crab (E. Carle) and a nonfiction text about growing and picking apples. Students love to help pick out the different color of apples in the book and find that pollinating bee helping the apples to grow. Students have also been learning about how great scientist ask A LOT of great questions. They have also been meeting new friends in their class and practicing how to cooperate and share with their friends.
In Mrs. Hurd's third grade class I got to join in a community builder where we practiced listening and talking so that we could learn more about each other. I got to connect with so many third graders. It was a lot of fun joining third grade this afternoon.
Reminders for Parents:
Picture Day is Tomorrow!!
Please remember to send a water bottle with your child. We do have paper cups for water in the MUR, but to help eliminate waste, it would be great if you sent your child with a water bottle.
After School Enrichment is starting soon .. please scroll below for more information on how to sign-up from PTA.
If you plan on volunteering in your child's class this year, please reach out to their classroom teacher and sign in the office before going to class. Here is the volunteer module that must be completed by all parents that will be volunteering on a regular basis.
It is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,
Angela Gramlick

Music is in the Air
With thanks to WCEF, we are pleased to announce that the Walnut Creek School District was able to transition to credentialed teachers for our elementary music program in grades one through five. This is a great benefit for our students as our highly qualified teachers will be implementing a districtwide music program that is consistent across all schools and progresses through the grade levels. When students reach grade four, they will have the opportunity to select General Music or Instrumental Music where they will go deeper into their preferred musical area. TK and K students will continue to benefit from an instructional music specialist who will join their classroom teacher each week. Music minutes for students are as follows:
TK/K: 30 minutes weekly
First through Third Grade: 45 minutes weekly
Fourth and Fifth Grade General Music Students: 45 minutes weekly
Fourth and Fifth Grade Instrumental Music Students: 75 minutes weekly over two sessions
Please welcome our new team, Devon Allen, Natalie Krause, Stephanie Wong, Instructional Specialist Frank Ryken and Band Teacher Jessica Batdorf (not pictured).
