Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
As term 1 comes to an end, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank our staff. Not only have our team established classroom relationships, systems and routines for the year, supported learning needs and behaviours in multiple ways, but we have also provided awesome learning opportunities from the Year 5-6 School Camp through to Art Gallery Trip, Pāpāmoa Hills, Beach Ed, Triathlon and Swimming sports to name a few.
So to our Teachers, Teacher Aides, Office team and support staff thank you for kicking off 2024 in a really positive way.
To our parent community. Thank you to those of you who have been able to give up time to attend a trip as parent help, to come to an event to support your children or contribute in any other way that you have. We acknowledge that giving up of time is not easy with work commitments, so thank you for your commitments and contributions.
Mathathon
As you will all know, over the last couple of weeks we have had our School Mathathon fundraiser happening. The response has been amazing with now over $17000 raised online and another $1500-$2000 is cash contributions. This fundraising has meant that today I have placed our order for our new double bay basket swing. This afternoon (Friday) we will be celebrating all of those children who have contributed to the mathathon through fundraising with some amazing prizes and likewise we have prizes for those children who did exceptionally well in improving their basic facts through the eyes of their teacher in this time. We would like to thank you and parents who have obviously shared this fundraiser far and wide with families and friends around the world. We are very grateful for this.
Keep an eye out on Facebook for the final total, photos of prizes and also the Pou Points for the Pou that raised the most money!!!
Dates for Next Term

They have been set by the Ministry of Education with each having a two week period in which that schools can chose allocate their specific day.
We have committed to Tuesday June 4 as the facilitator that we are going to work with has availability on that day following the long weekend. Ideally Friday would have been our preference, however she is not available that day to support us.
We appreciate your understanding with this staff professional development.
I would like to wish you all a very safe holidays and we look forward to seeing you on Monday April 29.

Safer Speeds Around our School
Tauranga City Council is seeking feedback on a plan to reduce speed limits to 30km/h in our city centre and near schools and some marae to make it easier for people to move around and stay safe.
Some of these reduced speed limits will be in place 24/7, but most will be variable speed limits, which means they will only apply during peak times such as school drop-off and pick-up times.
Sixteen schools in Tauranga already have variable 40km/h speed limits – these are also proposed to change to 30km/h. It may simply be a single road that runs past the school gate, or a slightly wider area that includes high-use areas.
To find out more about the speed management plan and take a survey, visit https://letstalk.tauranga.govt.nz/projects/safer-speeds. The survey is open from now until 5pm, Friday 3 May. Council staff will also be out and about at local markets over the next few weekends if you have any questions or would prefer to give your feedback on paper, or in person. Details on the web page.

Please include your child’s name, room and reason for absence.
If your child arrives at school after 8.40am they are late. Please ensure they sign in at the office before going to class. Thank you.
As part of our School-Links communication system, an automated text message will go out to all unexplained absences. This number is a reply once only.
While we understand that families sometimes need to take time away from school, it is essential that we as a school are notified.
Any absence longer than 20 school days will need to be approved in advance by the school principal. You can do this by sending an email to papamoaprimary@papamoa.school.nz explaining the reason for your child's absence and the dates they will be away. If your child is absent for longer than 20 school days the MOE instructs us to remove a child from our school roll. If you live outside of our school zone there is no guarantee that your child will be able to re-enrol at Pāpāmoa Primary School. It's important to keep communication open between us. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in your child's education.
