Principal's Weekly Update
Term 2 Week 12
RAISE Goal: reflect on my learning and celebrate success
Te reo phrase of the week: Titiro mai (look this way)
Kia ora,
What an end to the term! Yesterday was a huge day of celebration for the Matapu School community, as we farewelled Raewyn Carley at a very special assembly in the Matapu Hall. Both Raewyn and Rod felt humbled by the acknowledgments, memories, and gifts that were lovingly given to them yesterday. We also presented The Carley Junior Diligence Cup as a parting award to Raewyn at the assembly. This cup will be an award that our Juniors can work towards achieving at our prizegiving assembly at the end of the year. She exemplifies our school’s RAISE values and is looking forward to attending our celebration where she will present it to the very first recipient.
At the end of the term it’s always good to reflect on our achievements and think about our next steps for the future. I think the way that our community pulled together through lockdown, both from an education as well as a well-being perspective, was amazing. The settled and welcoming approach that our staff set up for our students returning to school meant that our students soon felt comfortable in their school surroundings again and were able to get stuck into their learning. As we look towards next term we are excited to be teaching the students about Puanga and implementing a Makerspace programme within our classrooms. Makerspace is an exciting initiative that enables students to develop their practical skills, alongside; creativity, problem solving, and cooperation. Watch this space!
On behalf of all of our staff I would like to thank you for your continued support of the school and hope you have a fantastic time in the school holidays.

Board of Trustees Update
It's great to finally get to the end of a longer than normal term and to hopefully put the disruptions of covid behind us. Theres been a lot going on around the school as life gets back to normal. A big thanks to our teachers who continue to do an outstanding job. The work they have put into distance learning and then the transition of our students back into everyday school life was top knotch.
The Ngahere project behind our enviro area has been completed and looks amazing. This has been a joint project with the preschool and the brainchild of preschool teacher, Kate Kingi.
Kate has put a huge amount of work into this and deserves a massive thanks for all her efforts. She secured funding from the Taranaki Electricity Trust. Her vision and can-do attitude has given us an area we can all benefit from and be proud of.
Our students will be able to enjoy the outdoor learning space and be a part of something really awesome.
Our building project looks to still be on track for term four. The architects and engineers are completing their final plans for consent, so all going well, we will underway as planned.
The board would like to take this opportunity to thank a couple of businesses who have become involved with our school.
Todd Energy and Ballance Agrinutrients have this year provided us with labour for our working bees, sponsorship, our WOMAD experience and numerous other things.
We love the positive relationship we have with these businesses and look forward to working closely with them in the future.
Lastly a massive thank you to all the parents, who in one form or another are there to help with jobs around the school, sports coaching and the other many things that make our school what it is. We hope you all have a great couple of weeks off and look forward to Term Three.

Room 1
We have also been writing messages to Mrs Carley to say goodbye and share some memories of the good times we have had with her.
Have a great mid term break everyone, and we will see you back in two weeks bright, bubbly and ready for Term Three.
Room 2
Room 3
Room 3 have been working hard on pastel self portraits and perspective art this week.
For the portraits, a pair of sunglasses in the middle of the paper was the starting point and then we carefully drew our faces. We learned a few shading and blending techniques with pastels and they are looking bright and colourful. Thank you to the lovely Room 1 students who came to give us some tips. We have been enjoying our Sports Skills for Life sessions which have focussed on learning or practising footwork for soccer followed by a game. Here are some of Room 3 students working hard on ball control.
Room 4
Room 5
This week Room 5 have been learning the Waiata, He Honore for Mrs Carley’s leaving assembly. It was a really sad assembly, we’re going to miss her soooo much!
Take care Mrs Carley!
