Fish Hatchery Field Trip - Friday
Egg hunt! SOS! Thursday 1:30
Spring Break
A Look at Our Week
Reading: Your children have sight word fever! They are excited to memorize new words so that they can add a card to their "snap word rings". The more they know, the better they read. Sight words make up 50 % of words in a text, hence the need for them to be learned. I will send home a new pack for Spring Break. We will be reading "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" this week by Judi Barrett (to go with our Science unit on Weather), "The Easter Egg Hunt" by Jan Brett (beautiful illustrations), and other seasonal books.
Writing: Opinion/persuasive writing.
Math: Operations and algebraic thinking - solving addition and subtraction equations. Our egg hunt will also be a Math activity. We will be sorting, counting and graphing after we hunt!
Choice Time: We are switching our dramatic play center this week from a dentist's office (thanks again Dr. Dan!), to a restaurant. Your children will be using their literacy and math skills as they take orders, read menus and pay their bills. We have Choice Time at the end of the day, and it's a developmentally appropriate time where the children learn through their play. I will also be adding Lego to the classroom this week, following on from our "Brickz-4-kidz" in-school field trip last week. The children were so focused as they built cyclone rides, and then attached motors to make them move. They learned about cyclones/hurricanes/typhoons as they built. It was a real hands-on experience, and the kids were so engaged.
Science: Miriam Scott has lead the way with planting seeds over the past couple of weeks. Your children are growing sugar snap peas from seed, and now they are ready to be transplanted outside. Ask your child about their plants!
