Trident Pānui
Term 1- Week 4
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
We have had a busy few weeks to start the year. This included our first full school assembly where our new virtue certificates were presented. These include Manaakitanga (Respect for Others), Kia Manawa Nui (Courage) and Kairangi (Quality Work). While there are no English equivalents for these terms, Matua Brett and Mr Barr broke down these virtues for our students and staff. Students can earn certificates by showing these virtues.
We have had some special visitors from China and Japan in the last two weeks. Our students had the opportunity to spend time and show off our culture and school. The year nine and ten Meet and Greet was well attended. Thank you to all of you who turned out to meet our staff.
Athletics day was held today. It is great to start the year with some healthy house competition. I have been looking forward to my first Athletics day at Trident High School.
As we get into the busy weeks of the term, it is timely to give some reminders. We require a minimum attendance of 85% and the phone "Away For the Day" policy is now in place. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Please reach out to the kura if you have any questions or require support.
Ngā mihi,
Mikaere October
Tumuaki/Principal

New start time for Wednesday

Student bus times remain the same, and students still have access to the breakfast club in the mornings also.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) through the school office.
Year 9 Hikoi Day
Last week our Year 9 teina and their Year 13 tuakana peers went out on their Hikoi days.
The day started off at Kohi Point with a korero from Matua Te Manaakitanga Pryor, then continued with a walk down to Otarawairere, where students engaged in circle conversation. After a snack, students did a sand sculpture activity. They then headed to Mahy Reserve for games and an afternoon swim.
The day was more than just fun; it was a great opportunity for students to get to know their whānau ako class and build connections beyond the classroom.
Check out this space
We celebrated opening our multi-use turf and canopy to students with a blessing on Monday, 19 February. Staff and students were able to walk onto the turf and see the space.
A massive thank you to Toni Harvey for the incredible amount of work she has put in over the past two years to get this space set up and ready for our community. Students are already loving the canopy!
We will be doing an official opening later in the year, thanking our amazing sponsors!
Scholarships
Massive congratulations to these students who achieved the following scholarships
- Jessica Cleghorn (Statistics)
- Kahurangi Himiona-Jones (Te Reo Māori)
- Molly Ellery (Painting)
- Molly Byford (Health and Physical Education)
- Hannah Baxter (Health and Physical Education)
This is an awesome effort from these students and well deserved.
