Shore PE/Health Newsletter
October Edition
National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI)
This week NAMI will be presenting to our 7th & 8th graders on Wednesday, October 2nd. It is important for our students to understand the importance of Mental Health and all the resources they have at their disposal. We encourage you to discuss with your son/daughter how they thought the presentation went. It is a difficult topic to discuss as a youth teenager but the more we educate our teens about mental health, the hope is they will use that information to make a positive/healthy choice.
Parent Teacher Conferences
We have parent teacher conferences on October 2nd and 8th from 5-8pm. Mr. Sears sent out a link for parents to sign-up. On Oct. 2nd, we have walk-in appointments from 5:00-5:45pm and on Oct. 8th walk-in appointments are from 7:00-7:50pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
Department Reminders
As we enter fall, please remind your son or daughter about getting enough rest, washing their hands, wearing warm clothing, and eating healthy so their bodies are prepared for the flu season! Each Friday, we ask the students to take their clothes home to be washed for the next week. We will be doing locker room checks to make sure all students are locking up their belongings. If we find any items out or not locked, students will be addressed.
Lost and Found
We have a full lost and found bin outside the boys locker room in the large gym and inside the girls locker room. Please have your child check for any lost items from school supplies to clothes. Feel free to stop down during conferences and take a look.
Physical Education Classes
Mr. Hrusovsky Class
In Mr. H's class just finished the volleyball unit. We did not have a student winner when it came to the serving contest. The contest was for a FREE large pizza of the student's choice if they could serve the volleyball into a large barrel on the other side of the net. We are now in the flag football unit working on throwing, catching, snapping, covering, and running different types of routes. We will begin game play soon. The flag football quiz will be on Mon. October 14th.
Mrs. Reschke-Parisi Class
6th grade has just finished up their soccer unit and have moved on to track and field! Lots of exciting things happening in 6th grade! Please remind your students that everyone is required to change their clothes each day for class and that they should be taking those clothes home to wash once a week.
Mr. Adams Class
Mr. Adams class is starting the ultimate frisbee unit. They just completed the softball unit and the students did a great job. We are proud of the students as it has been difficult not having a consistent teacher in class everyday. Mrs. Kessler & Mr. Parisi have been filling in. Mrs. Kessler will be at parent teacher conferences and representing Mr. Adams.
Health Classes
Mr. Aloisio Class
In health class, we working on our final project for the personal health and wellness unit. They will be making an ad or infomercial about a product that can help them with their three types of health. After this unit is completed we will be starting the healthy eating unit.
Mrs. McKinney Class
We are wrapping up our Personal health and wellness unit talking about Decision making. Please try to talk to or ask your students about the 6 steps to decision making process. We used it with real life situations that 7th graders may face. Also, this months healthy challenge is Go Lean with Protein. Students will be tracking how many servings of protein they consume each day.
