MARCH 2024 - STATE TESTING EDITION
THIS WEEK
Notes from the Principal's Desk
Let's shine a positive light on the focus of CAASPP testing!
Last year, our incredible staff came together to craft a testing schedule that proved to be a tremendous success. With a unified team effort, we saw notable improvements in our school's performance during testing. This year, we're building upon that success with a few adjustments, particularly with the implementation of a block schedule.
Here are some highlights to keep in mind:
- Streamlined Schedule: Recognizing the challenges of "Testing Fatigue" from previous testing schedules, we revamped our approach. Our current schedle is more focused and efficiently completes testing within just 6 days, ensuring our students remain engaged and energized throughout.
- Focused Support: We've organized our staff into testing teams dedicated to providing the best support possible for our test takers. This collaborative effort aims to create a positive and encouraging testing environment.
- Student Well-being: Only students participating in the assessments will be on campus during the testing window. For those not testing, we encourage them to take this time to recharge, catch up on rest, and attend to any family commitments.
- Communication and Resources: We've prepared a comprehensive document with FAQs and will be sending out reminders and updates throughout the testing period, including during breaks. Additionally, testing room assignments will be shared via school and student email systems.
- Testing Groups: To clarify, seniors and sophomores won't be testing, while freshmen will test on specific days aligned with their athletic teams for physical fitness testing. Seventh, eighth, and eleventh-grade students will have testing sessions almost every day during the testing window.
We've also developed infographics and a traditional overview, complete with FAQs, to ensure everyone is well-informed about the testing process.
Parents, please emphasize the importance of these assessments to your testing students. The results will play a significant role in identifying support classes and intervention areas. While we value other measures such as grades and performance, these assessments are vital in understanding our progress as a learning community. Let's encourage our students to give their absolute best effort!
Let's rally together as the SOON Community and approach this testing period with pride and enthusiasm!
