Important Reminders
- This week there is no school on Monday, January 19 to recognize and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will study him in class by conducting a short research project about his life and we will also read an e-book using the Storia book program. I have attached a link to an interactive crossword puzzle about his life if your child would like to explore it at home!
- We have MAP testing this Thursday and Friday. It is not anything your child can study for, but please encourage them to try their best on this computer-based test. The math test is in the morning on Thursday; the reading test is in the afternoon on Friday. I will not be in school on Thursday due to my husband's hip surgery, so even though there is a substitute teacher that day, please encourage your student to treat it like a regular day and to try their best on the MAP test. Thank you!
- Many of our students are running out of everyday supplies, such as pencils and glue sticks. I have recently purchased more scissors for the classroom, since we have a group bucket that some students need to use since they do not have scissors. However, I could really use some help in purchasing the extra pencils and glue sticks for our classroom. Please check with your child and make sure they have enough supplies in their desk, especially pencils and glue sticks. If you would like to donate a few extras to our "group supplies" buckets, for those students who do not have supplies everyday, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks.
V.I.P. and Teacher Helper
Last week, Mason R. had the most Class Dojo points and he is our new VIP! Congratulations!
Thank you to Melanni for being our Teacher Helper last week and this week!
What We Are Learning...
- Math - We will have a place value unit 5 test on Wednesday. Study guides went home on Friday (optional to study ahead of time), and the completed study guide will come home Tuesday night in order to study more. I am confident our students will do a great job!
- Reading - We are getting back into our "Book Clubs" and "Magazine Monday" routine. We also started reading "Readers Theater" on Fridays, which the students love! Our focus for the next few weeks is informational text and non-fiction elements of text.
- Writing - Our third quarter will be devoted to informational writing, and we will start it off by completing a short mini-research project about Martin Luther King, Jr. in honor of MLK day. Also, you will notice that we now have 15 words (instead of 10) on our spelling tests. Your child should have their 15 words written in their student agenda. Spelling tests are every two weeks, and our next one is this Friday, January 23. Please encourage your child to practice their words on the practice test that is coming home Tuesday and is due on Friday.
- Science - The students have now switched classrooms to be in Mrs. Ruesch's environmental science class for a few weeks! Please check your student's agenda nightly in case there is science homework to complete. If you are able to help out with a fossil project on January 22 from 2-3 p.m., please let me know. Thanks.
