January 2022 National News
Ready to Spell-It-Out? The Stride National Spelling Bee Is Here!
Join 3rd–12th students across the country and show off your spelling skills in an epic word game with multiple rounds—school, state, regional, and national. Any eligible student can participate starting at the state level, whether they are enrolled at a Stride K12-powered school or not.
Regional winners receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to compete on a national stage. The national winner will receive a $200 Amazon e-gift card along with a trophy and certificate. There are other prizes for different round winners too!
Stride Serves: A Day On, Not Off
In 1994, Congress passed an act called the “King Holiday and Service Act.” This designated Martin Luther King Day (observed the third Monday in January) as a national day of service. It is considered a “day on, not a day off.” You can participate in a variety of service activities to honor the memory of Dr. King and to answer his question, “what are you doing for others?”
How You Can Get Involved:
- Help clean up a neighborhood park
- Volunteer at your local humane society
- Organize a used clothing/toy drive
- Find a local volunteer activity based on your interests
- What other ideas can you think of to honor this Day of Service?
Be sure to share photos of your activities on your school's Facebook page with the hashtag #StrideServes!
