Pumpkin Pies
Our class had a wonderful time at the high school making pumpkin pies. Each student was given an ingredient to add to the pumpkin filling. Then they were assigned a work station where they rolled out their dough for their individual pie. They quickly learned the importance of flour!
Once the dough was rolled out, they placed it in their pie tins and cut off the access dough. Some students learned how to pinch the edges to give the crust a professional look.
Take a look at the video to see all of the fun we had.
Horizon Lunch Bunch Book Club
If your child likes to read, Lunch Bunch Book Club is for them! The Horizon Lunch Bunch Book Club is for 4th-6th graders who will meet in small groups with volunteers during their recess/lunch time to read and discuss books, while eating their lunch. There will be three sessions: January, February, and March. To sign your child up, check your email or print out a sign-up form. Below is a sign-up form and flyer. Your child needs to be signed up no later than Friday, December 5th.
Coffee House
The class is finishing up writing their poems and publishing their Story Jumpers. To culminate their poetry unit, we will be having a Coffee House! Students are working on memorizing two poems. On December 22nd each student will perform their poems to the class with inflection in their voices to help animate their poems. We will be working on these in class during our Club Time.
Book Trailers
WOW! The students did a fantastic job finishing up their book trailer videos on Animoto. They did a wonderful job using pictures and text to capture their audience and intise them to read their book. Take a look at their videos. You might find a new book to read!
PJ Day
Student Council thanks you for all of the donations that you've made for the Christmas Clearing Council! They have a new project helping out kids in Uganda. The student assigned to 5th Grade is: Dennish (same as Dennis) Onencan (Boy). Dennish lost his father during the war; also is very shy. When he grows up he wants to be a doctor. If your child would like to support Dennish they can bring in a $1. When they bring in their dollar they are able to wear PJ's on December 19th!
