Spring Book Fair March 18-22
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way! Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here is what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from March 18-22 at OBJH Library.
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/oaklandbayjrhighsch
The countdown to more Book joy is on! Catch you at the Fair!
A Vital Conversation: Discussing Alcohol and Drugs with Your Teen
As children navigate the complex transition from childhood to adolescence, they encounter numerous challenges and pressures, including exposure to alcohol and other drugs. It's crucial to have open, honest, and supportive dialogues with our children about these substances and their potential impacts.
Talking to your teen about alcohol and drugs is not just about warning them of the dangers; it's about equipping them with knowledge and confidence to make informed, healthy choices.

Reteach, Reinforce, Recognize RESPECT
For the month of March, we are continuing to focus on RESPECT. As a collective team, we can prioritize reteaching, modeling, highlighting, and acknowledging respect at the Bay and our community. This includes crucial conversation at home. We encourage you to have a conversation with your student about what respect looks like in their classrooms.
When respect becomes the norm, our teachers and staff are impacted significantly as well. A teacher's job becomes much more productive when they are able to utilize their time to teach rather than redirecting/ addressing students' disrespectful behavior.

Let's Team Up for Everyday Attendance!
We all know how crucial it is for our students to be present at school, not just occasionally, but every single day. Being in school all day, every day, plays a fundamental role in our children's learning journey. Our commitment to enhancing attendance is strong, and we're excited to make every school day a vibrant, enriching experience that our students won't want to miss. From high-quality, engaging instruction to fostering a supportive and positive school culture, along with nurturing positive relationships, we're dedicated to making our school a place where students feel valued and eager to attend.
We understand that sometimes, there are hurdles that can make regular attendance challenging. We're here to help overcome those barriers. Whether it's a concern you'd like to discuss or support you need, our school attendance secretary and school counselors are just a conversation away. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
In instances of excessive absences, it's important to note that we may need to involve the Mason County truancy board to collaboratively create a plan for improvement. This step is all about working together to support your child's success and may sometimes lead to further discussions in court hearings.
For students navigating challenges with tardiness or skipping, we offer an After School Restorative Circle (ARC), a 1–2-hour session designed to address these issues positively and constructively.
Together, let's ensure our students recognize the value of every school day. Your partnership is key to building a community of consistent attendance and enduring success.
