Coker Mission--Every Child, Every Day
We support and foster a positive community of successful, life-long learners and leaders by meeting the needs of every individual while challenging each one to reach full potential.
Please open Skype first thing in the morning to keep communication strong.
The Leader in Me Symposium 2016
The SA Symposium website is up and ready for you to register or submit to potentially be selected in the categories of student leaders, student talent, breakout sessions and/or volunteers.
Go to the following link to begin the process. Please start early—it can get more difficult the later you wait (that relates to registering for any of the categories). Remember, early bird pricing for individual registration goes by quickly. This year, it expires on September 23. http://symposium.theleaderinme.org/ So that I may plan accordingly, please let me know if you are planning to attend and in what capacity no later than this date.
A cool student leadership opportunity to consider is a Student led breakout - over the past four years, some of the most popular breakout sessions have been facilitated by student leaders. TLIM is looking to have more students lead breakout sessions this year.
Many of you are doing really cool stuff in your classrooms or here at Coker—consider applying to present at Symposium!
See You at the Pole
“See You at the Pole” (SYATP) is a student organized and student led gathering that takes place at a school’s flagpole for the purpose of engaging in public prayer. The event is usually held in the morning before school starts. This year’s SYATP is Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
If this event is being held on your campus, it must be completely student initiated. Employees may participate only outside of their official workday, but they cannot engage in any participation that could be construed as leading this event. This would include being the only speaker at the event, or having employees promote the event by actively encouraging students to attend and/or participate. This is necessary in order to avoid any impression/perception that the District is conducting or sponsoring the activity in any way.
Cumulative Folders
All cumulative folders are to remain in the designated records room at your campus. Cum folders are not to be taken from this room. It is important that anyone be able to locate a cum folder at a moment’s notice. For staff who have a need to view the folder, it can be viewed in the records room. When necessary, a copy may be made of a specific document, such as a Home Language Survey.
Please make certain this practice is followed here at Coker.
Content Specialist Support
Due to the restructuring of content specialist support this year, the training titled "Writing-Targeting Needs Course at Coker" on Monday, September 21st had to be cancelled.
There has been a shift in the instructional specialists’ assignments in an effort to focus much needed support to identified campuses (not Coker). Specialists will continue to provide district-based professional development, Super Saturdays, and Data Debriefs for all campuses.
We appreciate your cooperation and support for this unified district effort.

Leader in Me Implementation
Week 6 also introduces students to Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. The deepest need of people is to feel understood. Week 6 is an excellent time to discuss the importance of listening in relationships.
Guide students through the Habit 5 section of The Leader in Me Activity Guide. Read the Habit 5 story from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. With input from students, decide how classroom leadership roles will rotate. If needed, allow students to mentor other students in their leadership roles.
