Solar eclipse day!
Thank you to Mrs. Bergfeld for organizing our viewing event and to donor Jeff Short for making it possible for all of our students and staff to have glasses!
Our habit for the month of March was Synergize. During the month we focused on coming up with something better than both of us had in mind, valuing differences, and seeking alternatives. Students are being recognized because they value creativity, cooperation, and diversity.
What is ISASP all About
Hello 3-8 Families!
I hope you all had a relaxing Easter break. I hope students are ready to finish the year strong! Speaking of finishing the year, Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) is quickly approaching!
Students in grades 3 through 11 in the state of Iowa are required to take the ISASP. They complete tests in Reading, Language/Writing, and Math. Students in grade 5, 8, and 10 also complete a test over Science topics. Students will complete these assessments the week of April 15th. All classes will test Monday through Wednesday with 5th and 8th completing science on Thursday. Students are given a score (typically schools receive this over the summer) that falls into three categories: Not Yet Proficient, Proficient, and Advanced. The attached link allows you to explore documents stating what skills students who score in the Proficient or Advanced categories should be able to demonstrate. The documents on this site also tell you what the score ranges are for each of these proficiency categories.
As a school, we use these scores to gauge the overall health of our academics. We make instructional and curricular changes based on what our students demonstrate year after year. We can also use scores to see how we stack up against other schools and the state as a whole.
It would be in your student's best interest for you to review the importance of taking their time and performing their best on these tests. It would also be of value to encourage healthy sleep habits and breakfast before school each day during the week of April 15th. Good attendance would also prevent students from having to miss more class time later to make up missed tests.
If you want to help your student prepare, see what types of questions they will be exposed to, or see scoring rubrics and tables you can follow.
We look forward to seeing the growth each student has made over the last academic year!
