educational requirements
there are no set educational requirements to join the British police force.
physical requirements
The Push/ Pull Test is measured on a designed machine which is derived from a rowing machine. The candidate sits in a chair with their back against a rest with their feet widely spread on the ground. The push Bar is adjusted so that it is level with their chest. The candidate begins with 3 test Pushes to warm them up and then must give 5 maximum effort pushes which will give a reading of strength which is shown for the candidate. Once completed the candidate sits at the other end of the machine, grabs two flexible handles, rests their chest against a rest and again performs 3 warm up pull's and then 5 Maximal effort pull's. Again the reading will be displayed for the benefit of the candidate.
The entry level for push/pull is 35.
the endurance test (bleep test) is two lines with a 15 meter gap between them. candidates must run between each line keeping in time with a bleep that will increase candidates must turn on the line every time they hear the bleep. candidates must achieve 5.6 on this test to gain entry to the police force.
medical requirements
candidates will be required to do a health questionnaire. This will be judged by the Occupational Health team.
Applicants will need a satisfactory height to weight ratio. guidelines are followed using the Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement. BMI measurements should range between 19-30 - classified as normal weight range. Measurements outside this range may require your application to be denied until the right weight is achieved. Good lung function is needed. Applicants need to have above average core strength . If candidates do not exercise regularly, they are advised to seek advice and training from a fitness instructor for 6-12 months prior to applying.
Police officers are randomly drug tested. all applicants will be tested during the recruitment process. Any person considering applying should not have used illegal drugs or substances at any time. Applicants with positive results will not be recruited.
A nurse will conduct the following tests and measurements: height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, eyesight, hearing, urine test.
A doctor will examine: heart, lungs, colour vision, reflexes, muscles and joints.

The application form is the applicants chance to show their competencies, skills and experience. CVs and letters of application are not excepted so it is important to submit an application form that is well organised. word processed applications are excepted and are set out to display the information in the same order as the original hard copy form.
requirements and advice for completion of application forms
before candidates write anything they are advised to read the form carefully to make sure they are clear about what is asked of them. candidates are asked to complete the form honestly as being in the police force is a highly demanding job that needs the right people to be involved.

everybody in wanting to join the police force has the same equal opportunity to apply. the police openly allow people with disabilities apply for the service. When a candidate applies there gender, colour, race, sexuality or religion will be overlooked as everybody is entitled to apply.
physical tests
to gain entry to the police force candidates must be at a certain level of fitness/strength candidates must preform a push and pull test as well as a bleep test.
psychometric tests
as part of the selection process candidates must take part In what is called a PIRT test that will test the candidates numerical and logical ability, speed vs accuracy tests and verbal abilities.
