News You Can Use!
Week of Nov. 16th Classes of Ms. Postema & Mrs. Blankenship
A very special "Thank You!" to Shalin and his mom, Mrs. Amin, for sharing her expertise on DNA and genetics with us. They both did a wonderful job reinforcing and enriching what we learned in science class. The students had a wonderful time extracting wheat germ DNA and learning from them both! Additional pictures will be posted on eClass.
Please note that Thanksgiving Holidays are November 21st-25th.
Curriculum Update
Writing/Grammar- Our new research on Westward Expansion topics will continue. A Daily Grade will be administered for a writer's reflection on their recent research. The students will also complete a Daily Grade for sentences (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex).
Word Study- The word study list for next week is Cycl/Circum/Centre/Center. The words have been posted on Quizlet.
Social Studies- Our Turn of the Century unit will focus on inventors. Look for a fun student/parent activity regarding technology today versus when parents were 10 years old!
Math - We will learn how to add and subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators. Our fractions test will be on Friday.
Science - On Monday, we will be having a daily grade on weathering, erosion, and deposition and the landforms they create. Students should study the materials in their Science Notebooks and the Quizlet on Landforms. Our focus will then move on to other ways that landforms are formed including plate tectonics, volcanoes, and earthquakes.
