Egg Drop Challenge

Definitions
- Force- is strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement. The contraption experienced force when it hit the floor as well as when we pushed it off of the ramp. The force of our hand caused the balloon to move forward and the force of the floor when it hit helped the contraption come to a stop.
- Net Force- is defined as the sum of all the forces acting on an object. the contraption experienced net force when it was pushed, when it fell, and when it actually hit the ground. When the contraption was pushed it had a force acting on it causing it to move forward, when it fell it had the force of gravity acting upon it, and when it hit the ground it felt the force of the ground making it stop.
- Friction- is the resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another. The contraption experienced friction as it was rolling down the ramp and onto the board.
- Static Friction- is the friction that exists between a stationary object and the surface on which it's resting. the contraption felt static friction before it was pushed and while it was on top of the ramp.
- Sliding Friction- it refers to the resistance created by two objects sliding against each other. The contraption experienced this as it was sliding down the ramp and onto the board.
Success or Failure
My group's contraption was indeed successful. the only damage that was done, was a small rack in the egg just enough for some yolk to flow out of it. I think that our contraption was a success because we used the straws as padding for the egg and we used the paper to wrap around the egg allowing it to have even more protection from the gravity acting upon it as well as the force of hitting the floor. We also blew up the balloons and tapped them to the sides of the paper slowing the contraptions momentum down and helping it hit the ground softly and helping the egg not crack. The straws would definitely have to be a strong component of our contraption, as well as the balloons. The balloons gave the contraption some air resistance allowing the contraption to slow down a little bit against the gravity. The balloon also gave the contraption rolling friction which helped it get from one end of the board to the other. That also let the balloon have a little bit of less friction acting upon it and not making it stop before the edge of the board. The straws gave the egg padding and gave the egg protection from the force of it hitting the ground.
