Knights Rising Higher 1st Quarter
Happy end of first quarter New Bridge families!
We hope this first quarter has been as invigorating for you as it has been for us. It's been delightful to partner with you and your child as we've focused on our school success plan and the 21-22 theme of "Knights Rising Higher." I see this happening day in and out in so many ways throughout our school and community! Please click on the link below and watch some highlights from our first quarter of teacher development, student learning, and fall activities!
Our teachers and staff have embraced our school goals and are working hard in our goal areas of:
- Improving literacy instruction and student achievement in all literacy areas
- Supporting all students and staff with social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Increasing student learning through teacher observation and feedback
- Requalifying for our Utah STEM Platinum status
- Delivering high quality differentiated instruction for all students, especially our multi-language learners and students with disabilities
This year, New Bridge educators have adopted this quote from Charles Ketterling, an American inventor, engineer and businessman who invented the electric starter and unleaded gasoline, and who holds 186 patents. He said,
“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.”
We believe this to be true and are holding high expectations of ourselves, our students, and our community in supporting student success. Thank you for your continued dedication to your child's education and to New Bridge School! As always, please reach out to your child's teacher or to our administrative staff if you have any questions.
Let's kick off this second quarter with renewed committment to engage ourselves in giving our children the best year ever!
Respectfully,
Principal Bukey

Counselor's Corner
It's a new month, and our new SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) focus starts on Monday! November will be focused on Friendship! November is known as the month of gratitude and what better way to spend it than focusing on friendships and relationships! At the end of the month, we will also be focusing on some gratitude challenges! :)
Please refer to the counseling page on our school website for resources and ideas to use in your families. The November Counseling Connection newsletter in English & Spanish will be coming home with your child this week and can be found on our counseling webpage.

Attendance Matters!
As we're planning for holidays and navigating the impact that weather and illness can have on school attendance, we encourage families to discuss the importance of attendance with your child. Good attendance is defined as attending 95% of the year, which equals a total of only 9 absences over a school year. So every day in attendance counts towards a childs opportunity to make a year's academic growth in school!
Here are some suggestions to consider as you're planning for the holidays.
- This holiday season, the best gift we can give our children is a good education. And the best place to get that education is in school. Every day and on time.
- Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after winter break. We hope to break that cycle!
- Holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families both near and far away and exposing children to our native homes and languages. As we're planning, let's please keep in mind the costs to our children’s education if they miss too much school.
- Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and putting our children behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
- Let's make sure our children are in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning. But it’s harder to teach and it’s harder to learn when too many students are absent.
- If missing school is unavoidable, especially in the event of illness, please talk to your child's teachers in advance to create a plan for making up missed work. But remember, a homework packet cannot make up for the interaction and learning that goes on in the classroom.
- Let's give our children the gift of attendance and help build a habit of attendance. The habits they build now will become habits for life!
