A Note From Mrs. Solomon
Happy Friday! Wild Rose!
HUGE THANK YOU to PTO for the Welcome Back Panthers sign! It was enjoyed by many social distanced pictures! A great way to start and recognize the 2020-2021 school year!
It has been a wonderful week of transition, learning, transition and more learning! It is great to have our remote students getting to know their new classmates virtually and our in-person students also adjusting to what the new "normal" of in person learning is like.
I am so very proud of our students and their ability to follow the rules to insure health and safety. Some times students need a friendly reminder to social distance. If you could continue to have this conversation at home that would be great! The safer we are the better able we are able to keep everyone healthy!
The information below may look the same - however it is continually updated. Please take the time to stay informed and read how protocols have changed.
Our Wild Rose panthers are making good "tracks" both remotely and in-person. We are so very proud.
Have a wonderful weekend!

i-Ready Assessment and Instructional Tool
August 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that District 303 is implementing a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready. Below, you will find information about the program and how we will be using it in the classroom. Last year students took Performance Series, i-Ready is replacing Performance Series
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will result in slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. Adaptive assessments are designed to determine what standards students show competency in and which ones the student should continue to learn.
i-Ready Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. These lessons are interactive and provide strategic support to keep your child engaged as they learn. The lessons will be fitted to your child based on the results of the diagnostic test. Your child’s teacher will monitor progress and can assign lessons based on how your student is progressing through the lessons.
What can I do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is expected they will get only about half of the questions correct.
Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
Use your paper and pencil to work out the math questions and come up with your best answer.
If your child is experiencing computer issues while at home:
Make sure your child is using their D303 provided device.
For D303 computer support go to: https://district.d303.org/elearning-tech-support
To help understand and prepare to take the i-Ready diagnostic assessment more information is posted at https://sites.google.com/d303.org/i-readyresources/home
To support your child’s learning in Online Instruction, you can:
Discuss your child’s progress on their i-Ready lessons.
Celebrate your child’s learning and growth.
Encourage them to follow through and complete lessons.
They will need access to a computer or iPad®, internet, and their login information. District devices are managed to support the i-Ready platform, for more information on how students log in to i-Ready go to: https://sites.google.com/d303.org/i-readyresources/home
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teachers. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting https://sites.google.com/d303.org/i-readyresources/home .
Sincerely,
David Chiszar

August 2020
Dear Parent/Guardian,
St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 strives to provide all students with the best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in school. As part of this commitment, District 303 is enhancing our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) across the district for the 2020-2021 school year.
This year, students in grades 2-5 and students in 6-12 will be completing a universal screening tool to assess their academic, social, and emotional learning skills. The use of universal screening allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with academic, social, and emotional learning.
One of the universal screening tools used by the District is the ECRA SEL Survey, which focuses on the following areas:
Responsible Decision Making
Self-Regulation
Social/Relationships
The ECRA SEL Survey will be completed three times this school year during the weeks of August 31st through September 10, January 18 through January 29, and April 26 through May 7. If a screening shows that a student will benefit from additional skill development, parents will be contacted and will work in collaboration with school staff to problem-solve and determine next steps.
Additional information about this screener and other assessments in District 303 may be found on our website at http://district.d303.org/assessment-accountability. Thank you for your support and assistance in ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to achieve academic and social-emotional success.
Please feel free to contact your building principal or me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
David Chiszar

Curriculum Nights
- K-2 Tuesday, September 8th
- 3-5 Thursday, September 10th
Attendance
Both Remote and In-Person students need to report absences to their home school. Please call the main office if your child will be missing school, whether they are in person or remote. Thanks!
Student Self-Certification EVERY DAY
- Step 1: Log-in here, using your HAC credentials. Answer the questions honestly. If you receive the green "you are good to go" screen, your child is clear to come to school. You do not need to print the green ticket.
- Step 2: Initial your child's luggage tag (that we will be providing you) signifying your completion of the online form.
Student's have a luggage tag and a weekly dated insert. This tag should hang on their backpack and serves as a quick way for teachers to check that children have been certified, prior to them entering school. Children who are not certified will not be allowed in school until they are certified. Families will be called prior to allowing a student into the school building.
Teachers will have the students replace the weekly insert on Fridays, prior to them leaving for the day. If your child is absent on a Friday or did not receive the new insert, feel free to just flip the previous week's insert over, date and initial it, and we will replace it with a new tag when they return to school.
THANK YOU
Wild Rose Arrival and Dismissal PLEASE READ
THANK YOU for working with us to work through arrival and dismissal. Please know that the number of car riders has increased significantly. Please be patient as we are doing the best we can and just need to have everyone do their part.
We have noticed that people are arriving very early to drop-off their child(ren). Please know that student drop-off was previously 7:50 and now 7:45 to ensure the ability to check all of the student certification tags before entering the building. There is not supervision prior to 7:45. Once supervision can be seen your child may exit their car and stand on a paw print prior to walking to class.
Here are some guidelines for arrival and dismissal:
ARRIVAL
- Students should be ready to exit the car when pulling up to the curb
- Students CAN exit their car ON THEIR OWN and then stand on a paw print for certification check. If they need assistance staff will help
- It is best to have students exit out the right side of the vehicle
- Please slowly pull out of the curve drive once your child(ren) has left the vehicle to allow for other families to drop-off
- Please do not exit your vehicle to assist. If you have other family members helping with this process please share these guidelines.
- Our car-riders, walkers, and first wave of bus riders are all dismissed at the same time.
- PLEASE have your name placard on your visor (this makes it easy to read from far away, as well as can be pulled down at any time) It can be clipped onto your visor or held by rubber band.
- Please pull as far as possible in the curved drive to allow for additional cars to pick-up
- Your child(ren) will walk to you if you pass them in the drive.
- Students can wait for you to drive into the front curve and we recommend siblings stand together. Please encourage your children to find one-another to help with the process.
- Students can enter cars that are stopped and pulled into the front drive. Students ARE NOT allowed to enter cars on the side of the building without supervision. They can enter cars on their own and a staff member can assist with the car entry if needed. Our staff have been opening doors to help with efficiency and ability to move, but it is not required
- If there is a large gap in front of your vehicle and your child needs to buckle please pull forward within the lot to allow for child safety and other student pick-ups.
- Once your child is safety in your vehicle you may pull out of the curved drive and exit the parking lot.
Thank you for all doing your part!
We appreciate your cooperation as we work to make arrival and dismissal as safe and efficient as possible.

Band Information
Hello, Incoming 5th Grade Families!
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. We are excited to get the school year started and are hopeful that your incoming 5th grader will join the Band Program here in D303!
Band will look a little different at the beginning of this school year. Following guidelines set forth by the National Association of Music Education and D303, beginning band students will all begin learning the fundamentals of musicianship by starting instruction on percussion. As the school year progresses, and health guidelines change, students may transition to the wind instrument of their choice.
Would you like to know more about the ins and outs of the band program - including how to rent an instrument, when lessons meet, expectations of the program and more? This presentation will help! Beginning Band Program Overview
Some Questions and Answers about Band This Year:
Will there be live lessons? YES. Band students will have lessons at school in a socially distanced classroom. Lessons will begin the week of September 7.
My student is studying remotely. Can they be in band? YES! I will be teaching lessons both in person and remotely. Lessons will begin the week of September 7.
Will there be Before School Band? Yes! D303 is committed to student and staff safety. Before school band will be held in smaller and socially distanced groups. Some weeks your child will come to school early for live group band, while other weeks they will join us virtually. This will allow all students to participate in group band, and maintain small numbers with social distancing. Before school rehearsals are planned to begin the week of October 12.
Will they be sharing instruments? All band members rent their own instrument. Musicians bring their own instrument to and from school for lessons, rehearsals and home practice. Musicians should also bring their own folding music stand to and from school for lessons and rehearsals.
What about concerts? Yes, there will be “concerts”, however performance opportunities will be done remotely or in a small group setting. We will not be holding traditional concerts this school year.
We’re looking forward to getting started with your new musician!

If you need technical support with devices, please use the live chat instead of their phone line. It can be found here: https://district.d303.org/elearning-tech-support
Devices will be brought home on a daily basis, and should be charged at home nightly. We will not be storing devices in classrooms.
Your child's email address is their 800#@students.d303.org. You find their 800#, which is their student ID, by logging in to your HAC account.
If you need assistance with passwords please contact your child's in-person or remote teacher.
Teacher Assignments
During this unique time of educating students in both remote and in-person settings, we are making every effort to balance class sizes and maintain a sense of community for all our students. As parents continue to request changes for their children, impacting both remote and in person class size, we will need to continue to shift personnel and adjust the remote and in person classroom makeups. While continuity is our goal, these adjustments may result in changes in placements. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide meaningful educational experiences for all our students.
