Writing:
- Spelling words for the week. (Prefixes in-, un-, dis-, and mis-): mislead, dismiss, insincere, unable, indirect, mistreat, disaster, dishonest, insecure, unknown, incomplete, unequal, unstable, misspell, disagree, informal, discover, unwise, mislaid, disgrace Challenge: invisible, mishap, unfortunate, discourage, unnecessary
- Quiz: Friday, January 12, 2018
- We will be working on using quotation marks to show dialogue in a piece of writing and also to identify titles to stories, movies, songs, etc..
Reading:
- Vocabulary Words: actions, best shows, best summary, conclude, contributes, events, future events, hints (We are now reviewing the words that we had from the beginning of the year.)
- Quiz-Reading Vocabulary/Phrases-Friday, January 12, 2018:
- We will take a reading assessment. Thursday, January 11 , 2018
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become.
- Your child should continue reading or be read to nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
- We will be learning third person, as it pertains to the point of view from which a story is being told. We will also be working on sensory details, imagery and figurative language.
- We continue our novel study, Bud, Not Buddy.
Social Studies:
We will be looking at what lead to the Revolutionary War, the results, and how the U.S. Military was formed.

If you child has been sick, you must send a note within 5 school days, explaining the absence. Please keep your child home if they are contagious or running a fever. They must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. It is helpful to call the office at 627-6750.
