HOPE Makes Pillows for Veterans
Military appreciation HOPE members have been busy making non-sew fleece heart pillows for Veterans that are in nursing homes and assisted living in Miami County. Once completed, the students will have made over 50 pillows for Veterans in Paola, Louisburg, Spring Hill, and Osawatomie. The materials for the pillows came from generous donations from community members in Miami County. The students would not have been able to honor and celebrate so many Veterans without the generous support. The students will continue to make the pillows the rest of the year. Even though there is no sewing involved it still takes several steps, the students are working hard to accomplish our goal.
Come get your Spring Break Reading!
Paola Middle School is excited to celebrate the love of books and reading during their annual Scholastic Book Fair, March 3 – 11. All Paola Middle School students will have a scheduled library time to shop at the book fair with their Communications class, but students are also welcome to visit the book fair throughout these dates with teacher permission and a blue book fair pass. The book fair is open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. On March 9, the book fair is open during parent-teacher conferences until 8:00 p.m. During conferences, families who visit the book fair will have the chance to win a free book in the hourly drawings. All proceeds from the book fair are given to our library to purchase books that students have selected on a book wish list. Come to Paola Middle School Library March 3-11. 8th Grade- Pre-Enrollment for High School!
We are gearing up for enrollment beginning with the incoming Paola High School students next week.
The schedule for 8th graders/incoming Freshmen is:
- March 3rd--Elective course "fair", PHS, 9:30-11 AM
- March 4th--Parent meeting, PHS, 6:30 PM
- March 5th-March 12--Enrollment window open for 8th grade students to enroll in freshman year courses.
- At the elective fair students will receive freshman course plan and elective offering forms on which they can list courses they are interested in taking after hearing about them that day. Even though information (Program of Studies, Course Offerings, 4 year Plan, etc) is available online, it's our preference that 8th graders wait until they have the opportunity to hear presentations about their options first, then make their selections.
TRACK STARTS!
The following is the schedule for the first week of track.
8th grade - March 10, 3-4:30pm
7th grade - March 11, 3-4:30pm
7th/8th grades - March 12, 3-4:30pm If your athlete has not participated in a sport, they will need to make sure they have all physical paperwork on file. If you are not sure if you have this completed, you may contact Misty Grayham in the office.
Officer Hale visits Computer Applications
Officer Hale, PMS SRO, spoke to 7th-grade students about Internet safety in their computer applications class. Following is a response from Krislyn Hadlock, 7th-grade journalism student, in regard to the presentation.
Why is Online Safety Important
Online safety is important because you could fall into a lot of harmful activities. Online safety is a matter of life or death because with one click or tap or swipe all of your information like your address, social security number, and more could be given away to anyone. Even when you shop online you are at risk for someone to hack your account. Bill paying, shopping, payment services, internet banking, and mobile banking are always at risk of being hacked. As time progresses and companies get smarter they can prevent bad situations but there is always a chance. Children are always at risk. All we have to do is go on social media. Social media is one of the worst ways a child is a risk. There is going to be someone pretending to be another person, or a bully trying to make you feel incapable but we always try to get through it but as us children, we are always trying to look as strong as we can. Even though we are very vulnerable to these types of things.
In my opinion, online safety is a huge thing. I don’t want all of my personal and family’s information out so the whole entire world could see it. To make sure you have that safety, you can do the following. Make sure your accounts are private, only let people you know follow you on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Make your passwords unique! Don’t put your username as your name may be, do something that you will remember but, make sure to always check everything before submitting your account! Make sure to be smart and be safe!
Thank you, Krislyn Hadlock 7th
