ALL GRHS STAFF AND STUDENTS MUST BE PROPERLY WEARING A MASK AT ALL TIMES IN THE BUILDING (EXCEPT WHEN SEATED AT LUNCHES). Students refusing to wear their mask will be sent home.
A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Hello GRHS Longhorns,
As I said last week, our GRHS students and staff have done an amazing job of being respectful of the political process and showing kindness with everyone’s freedom of choice. The country has now elected a new President and I want to continue to ask that regardless of who you voted for our GRHS students will need to continue to be kind and respectful while on campus, both inside and outside of the building. As a proud Longhorn Nation, please join me in setting a positive example as we continue our focus on success, kindness, and acceptance in the building, on the field or court, and beyond the GRHS walls! #WeAreGR
The 2nd Six weeks is a wrap and the 3rd Six weeks kicks off tomorrow! We will have about 250 more Longhorns joining us this week. That will put us close to 1800 in the building, with approximately 1050 still as virtual learners. Which means with more bodies back in the building, we will continue to HOLD OUR VISION and TRUST OUR PROCESSES of being strict on the proper wearing of masks (nose and mouth covered) and social distancing as much as possible throughout the day by following all the safety protocols and procedures that we have in place. Thanks for your support!
We will continue to be transparent about positive cases in the building, as you have seen with these emails that have come out. Mr. Forshee, GRHS Associate Principal, does a great job with the contact tracing process, as this is a meticulous and cumbersome task. I do want to thank you for your patience and support as we strive to do our best in keeping our Longhorns and staff as safe as possible each day. Please be reminded one more time, that the schools are the ONLY place that is having to report these cases...but 9 times out of 10 our Longhorns have brought this into our building, so there will continue to be positives as people are attending group functions (parties, events, etc) more and more. COVID is something that we are having to learn to live around, so let's keep being smart and stay safe by adhering to the face to face expectations by properly wearing those masks, sanitizing regularly, and following social distancing protocols to the best of our ability. Any student refusing to follow the rules will be given disciplinary consequences, which will in turn effect their semester exam exemptions. Let's all do our part to keep GR the PLACE to be... especially face to face.
Virtual learners RETURNING face to face tomorrow will need to report DIRECTLY TO THE AUDITORIUM AT FIRST PERIOD to have a short orientation regarding safety protocols, expectations from myself as well as, receive their ACTIVE schedule. (things may have shifted a bit due to leveling). You received an email about bringing back the technology you checked out as a virtual learner and my expectation presentation on Friday afternoon. Please review this carefully and have your technology ready to turn back in, so you can get an active schedule.
It's HOCO Week! See the flyers below for dress up days, photo ops, and fun activities throughout the week for our face to face and virtual longhorns to partake in! Stay tuned on Twitter...even our staff is going to get in on a few challenges!
***ATTENTION GRHS STUDENTS! (BUY ON VISITOR SIDE FOR THIS SATURDAY'S GAME AGAINST ELKINS)***
Saturday's Football Game tickets will be a little different for you. We want to have a LARGE and LOUD student section that night so we are moving the GRHS STUDENTS ONLY to the VISITOR SIDE, because there will be ALOT more tickets available! JV and Varsity Cheer will both be there so BOTH sides (home side with parents/family and GR student section -on visitor side will have plenty of cheer to PEP you up!) Who will be more ROWDY? My bet is on my Longhorns! Students at the bottom of the student section did a great job at Mercer this past week filling those stands, and showing off our school pride, so let's do it again at home for the Elkins game!
**GRHS STUDENTS**
Make sure you are purchasing VISITOR SIDE TICKETS....NOT HOME SIDE. (You CANNOT SWITCH OVER AFTER THE PURCHASE so BUY THE CORRECT SIDE! Again this is for GRHS STUDENT SECTION ONLY...parents, siblings, fans will all still buy on the home side!
Clarity On Face To Face Classroom Assignments.
In an effort to be equitable multiple departments have been giving all the students choices on turning in assignments each day. For example, since all virtual students have until 11:59pm they have been giving the face to face students the same deadline. However, what we are finding and hearing from parents is that they are at school all day, yet they are still coming home with lots of work to complete. In looking into this further, I have found that students are CHOOSING to not do it in class and instead taking it home, which is not working for quite a few of them. We have revamped some of our daily requirements and expectations to help them with time management and getting the majority of the work finished IN CLASS. Of course, AP/DUAL classes involve extended amounts of work some days, as these are college level credit classes, this is to be expected because they had heavy work loads and expectations to begin with. PAP will have some of these heavy days as well, that's why they are PAP...to prepare our Longhorns for AP classes. You will be receiving Canvas announcements from individual departments with these changes. As always, if you have a concern, our teachers are here to listen and problem solve with your student. We are all here for the right reasons, so let's work together to help our students find high levels of success.
Thank you so much to all our parents and students reaching out to your Assistant Principal for questions and assistance. Please CONTINUE to email your (or your student's) Assistant Principal , as they can assist you the quickest.

Proctorio Student Resources are Located in the Student Canvas Toolbox Course!
GRHS HS teachers were trained on Proctorio this past week and will be using it moving forward to help maintain test security and reduce cheating. Teachers will be reviewing this with their classes moving forward this week.
Proctorio is a web-based proctoring program that has just been purchased by the district to be used with high school accredited courses. This program will monitor students as they are taking an online exam so that teachers can be notified of any suspicious activity that takes place.
Before you are able to take your test, a couple of steps must be completed:
- Google Chrome must be installed on your laptop or desktop computer. Proctorio does not work with a phone or other mobile device. If you need to download and install Google Chrome, the directions can be found here: Install Google Chrome.
- The Proctorio Chrome Extension must be installed on the computer.
The video and/or step-by-step instructions (in the Canvas Course linked below) will guide you through this process.
If you are using a district provided computer, you can skip these steps as both Chrome and the extension have both been installed. If you are using a personal computer, you will need to follow the steps below to install the extension.

It takes well over $100,000 per year to run the Longhorn Band program. The district does a great job at supporting our band programs, but can only fund a portion of that. The majority of the funds are dependent upon fundraising efforts and sponsorships.
Your donation will help our band students by providing:
• The salary for a Color Guard Director and Percussion Technicians
• Additional instructors and master technicians
• Food and hydration to students during games and competitions
• Equipment and props for marching and performance seasons
• Competition fees
• Travel to competitions and performances
• Multiple end of the year scholarships to graduating seniors
• Leadership camp to 10-13 qualifying candidates each summer

The Freshman Maroon Longhorns lost a hard fought game to the Ridge Point Panthers Thursday Night 30-7. Offensively, Jaden Shelton scored on a run up the middle on the first play of the game. Trevion Aikens, Cody Ford, and Adrian Falkquay all stood out defensively making physical tackles all over the field. Next week, the Longhorns will take on the Elkins Knights at home Thursday, Nov. 12.
The Longhorns lost a close one Thursday Night to the Ridge Point Panthers 20-14. The offense was paced by Darion Daliet who scored twice. Defensive standouts included Louise Gozun, Scott Karstetter-Patrick, and Charles Davis.
The Longhorns lost a tough one to the Ridge Point Panthers Friday Night 38-20. Offensively, Sam Miller led the charge by jumping over the line on a QB sneak and hitting Javon Gipson deep late in the first half for a score. Miller later found Donavan Dixon in the endzone for their third score of the game. Both Kenneth White and Hymond Drinkard ran the ball hard for all four quarters. On the defensive side of the ball, stand out plays were made by Bryce Grays, Matthew Lambert and Decedric Johnson who helped push the Panthers to their limit on Friday Night. The Longhorns special teams unit made some big plays down the stretch recovering two onside kicks. Next week, the Longhorns will take on the Elkins Knights Saturday, November 14th at Traylor Stadium.
Volleyball!
GRHS vs Ridge Point
The Freshman-A Volleyball Team took on a tough Ridge Point squad here at Longhorn Gym on Tuesday night. The Longhorns won the first set 25-20, but dropped the second set, only set loss of the season so far, with a score of 23-25. The team bounced back and won the third set 15-6 to claim the victory for the night.
The Longhorn JV Volleyball team took on Ridge Point here at George Ranch High School this past Tuesday night. While the ladies fought hard, they fell to the Panthers in 3 sets with scores of 25-21, 15-25, and 7-15.
The Longhorn Varsity team played host to the Lady Panthers of Ridge Point High School Tuesday night. The gym was packed considering the current pandemic situation and the fans were loud. The Longhorns dropped the first set with a score of 22-25; however, the girls bounced back to win sets 2 and 3 with scores of 25-16 and 25-18. The team faced some adversity and tried to fight their way back but eventually lost the fourth and fifth sets with scores of 18-25 and 9-15. With the loss, the Longhorns are now 10-1 in district play. Player of the match was junior #2 Avery Shimaitis. The Longhorns look to bounce back Friday night.
GRHS vs Ft. Bend Bush
The Longhorn Freshman Volleyball team continued their undefeated season by taking down the Bush Lady Broncos Friday night. The Longhorns won in 2 sets with scores of 25-17and 25-11.
The Longhorn JV Volleyball team quickly defeated the Bush Lady Broncos Friday night . The Longhorns won in 2 straight sets with scores of 25-9 and 25-13.
The Longhorn Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Fort Bend Bush to take on the Lady Broncos and came home with a win. The Longhorns took down the Lady Broncos in 3 straight sets. The first set of the match was played by the seniors, and they won their "senior-set" with a score of 25-18. The Longhorns continued their winning ways and won the next two sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-9. Senior #9 Paris Donavan was named Max Preps Player of the Match.
SWIM!
This was a small glimpse of what the rest of the nights swims would look like. Almost every single event our Longhorns took top finishes. "I told the team that I was extremely proud of their ability to compete and not back down from a tough race. But the thing that really stood out was how everyone supported their teammates and cheered them on throughout the entire meet," said Coach Fontenot. Fontenot also added, "we have a really special group of kids, they have 100% taken ownership of their own goals and mentally checked into the process of getting better.
The most outstanding performances of the evening were record breaking swims by senior Keely Rollinson. Rollinson broke the 2014 backstroke record along with the 2017 200 IM. "She keeps popping out best times and its been fun to watch," Fontenot added. Our motto this year is treat every race like its the last one of the year! We believe that if we take that fierce competitive approach to our races we will ultimately be more than ready for when the "real" last race of the year is upon us. The George Ranch Longhorns Aquatics Program returns to action next Thursday, November 12th against Seven Lakes High School.
Longhorn varsity girls basketball picks up their first win of the season 32-28 over Cy Springs. The Team was led by Jada Howard w/ 9pts , Gabby Owens w/8 and Rachel Okoye w/7 deflections
