You can find examples of this task in the ELPAC practice test. Once you have an idea of the task, you can use informational text from your curriculum to provide multiple opportunities for your students to write collaboratively and independently as you teach and monitor spelling, grammar and mechanics. Do not hesitate to contact me if you any questions or in need of support.

Notes from our STEAM Coach-Angela Muro
Hello colleagues,
I have to share with you my disappointment. STEAM Night was Thursday and we had a dismal turnout. Very few families showed up and no one from our staff participated. How can we promote and/or improve our STEAM Night so that more families and staff participate? Last year, when Mr. Corona would email us a flyer, I would promote STEAM Night wherever I could. I posted the flyer on Schoology, Class Dojo, and Google Classroom. I gave my students a “No Homework” pass if they attended and wrote a little “something” about what they learned. Sometimes more than half my class would attend. My students would discuss what they observed other students doing. I remember that my 5th graders were very impressed with the 6th graders’ Health projects last year.
STEAM Night is a great opportunity to showboat all the learning going on in your classrooms, especially since we are still somewhat isolated. We do not have to continue with the same format that we used last year. If you some ideas about how to make STEAM Night more interactive and engaging, please share. STEAM Night belongs to all of us, as Malabar is a STEAM certified school. Let’s work together to make it better. I hope you all have a great week. As always, if you need anything or have any questions, shoot me an email or come by Room 5.
LAUSD Edulastic CFA Testing Window #1 Delay & CFA Selection by Grade Level
LAUSD Edulastic CFA Testing Window #1 has been delayed to November 29th - December 10th, 2021 to provide additional instructional time and to ensure time for schools to select which CFA (CFA #1 or CFA #2) their grade levels will administer in each of the first two testing windows.
Action Item (Due November 12th, 2021):
Please use the following Google Form to select the CFA (CFA #1 OR CFA #2) each Grade Level (Kindergarten - 6th Grade) at your school will administer in each of the first two testing windows by November 12th: https://bit.ly/EdulasticCFASelection . Recommendations for which CFA (CFA #1 OR CFA #2) to administer in each testing window for you and your grade level teacher teams are provided in the newly revised LAUSD Edulastic CFA Grade Level Blueprints found here: https://bit.ly/LAUSDElemMathCFABlueprints2021-2022 . Edulastic will use this information to assign the correct CFA for each grade level at each school based on the information provided by principals in this Google Form.
Focus on Classroom Observations-Standard 3: Delivery of Instruction
As we visit classrooms, we will be focusing on the following two elements:
3b2. Discussion Techniques and Student Participation Techniques are used to ensure that all students share their thinking around challenging questionsEffective Practice: Teacher uses intentional, differentiated strategies to engage all students in discussion, attempting gradual release from teacher-directed to student initiated conversation. Students participate in intellectually challenging discussions.
3c1. Standards-Based Projects, Activities and Assignments Standards-aligned learning activities cognitively engage students in the lesson
Effective Practice: Instructional projects, activities and assignments are aligned to the instructional standards, require higher levels of thinking, are culturally relevant, and may include real-world application. Most students are cognitively engaged, constructing their own understanding and exploring content. The learning activities are differentiated, as necessary, to meet the learning needs of student subgroups.
Focus for Next Week
This week, we will focus on STEAM and room environment.
