Kindergarten
November 10th
Reading
This week, we continued practicing our comprehension skills with the story, The Relatives Came. Students had many connections and predictions to share due to their own experiences with relatives visiting from out of town.
We also progressed with guided reading. Students worked in small groups listening to stories, writing, and reading books at their independent reading level. We were able to continue to work with students in small groups to differentiate based on each student's needs.
Math
We learned about 3D shapes and how they are different than 2D shapes. Students worked to identify the 2D shapes that make up 3D shapes. We also built towers using 3D, solid shapes as well as identifying the names of the solid shapes. We reinforced some of the flat, 2D shapes through stations by using shapes to build shapes; creating shapes with rubber bands on Geoboards; and using popsicle sticks to make shapes.
Writing
We spent some time writing in our journals using our new sight words. We asked and answered questions using the words who, what and where. Students practiced writing question marks to show that their sentence was a question. They had to think about proper punctuation when asking and answering questions.
Social Studies
We finished our unit on Citizenship! We know how to be a good citizens. We are practicing how to make choices at school that a good citizen would make :) Please ask your kindergartener what they learned about citizenship!
