Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon,
As we approach the end of year I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all parents and guardians for their support, kindness, and patience throughout this year. I cannot overstate my personal gratitude and appreciation for all of you. Thanks so much for the many personal emails and messages this year offering words of encouragement. They will be long remembered.
Nothing pleased me more this week than watching our seniors celebrate the end of this part of their personal journey. We are so happy to have played a part in their growth and development. Watching the joy and happiness this week as they received academic and athletic recognition, displayed their skills at the talent show, or simply stopped by to say goodbye or deliver a senior announcement, reminded me of our overall purpose: serve and support all of our students.
I look forward to further celebrating a special senior class this week. They will always have a special place in my heart. They welcomed me to Purcell with warmth and graciously supported covid protocols that were often disruptive to their senior year. However, they persevered and through resilience they experienced significant successes in the classroom, on the playing courts and fields, and in their own personal lives. They left a lasting legacy of character, service, and citizenship that will be long remembered.
Thank you 2021 Seniors!
Proud to be a Dragon.
Go Dragons!
Always feel free to call or email me if you have questions,

Sophomore students enrolled for Junior year this week during their English classes. They should have copies of the choices they made as a preliminary wish as we look at building the schedule for next year. Junior year is the first year that allows a lot more choice for students, which includes options for concurrent enrollment, Internship, Mid-America Technology Center and more elective choices all the way around. For more information on concurrent enrollment at the high school, go here:
Juniors:
Senior year typically allows a great deal of flexibility for students, including options for concurrent enrollment, Internship, Mid-America Technology Center and more elective choices all the way around. For more information on concurrent enrollment at the high school, go here: PHS Concurrent Information. Ask your student about their schedule to see what they’re thinking and please let me know if you have questions!
Senior year is a scary but exciting time and there is much to do next year. Applications for college, career tech, financial aid, scholarships and general planning for life after high school is upon this group. I will be here every step of the way and while I will host a parent night in the fall and work with your students throughout senior year, I would love the opportunity to sit down with you and help plan the next steps. Email or call anytime if you’d like to set that up.
Boys State
As a reminder, it is almost time for Junior (and this year Senior) boys to consider applications for Oklahoma's American Legion Boys State. The date this year is May 29-June 5. Boys State is normally limited to juniors, but seniors are included in the Oklahoma Boys State this year because they were not permitted to go last year due to the pandemic. However, they will not be able to attend Boys Nation. Boys State Application.
Girls State
Girls State will be through the University of Oklahoma this year and will be a virtual event that runs one week in May, Monday-Friday, from 3-6pm. Cost is $50. Applications are not yet available but as soon as they open to us, I will post the link here.
Seniors:
Congratulations!
Safety and Security Awareness
- Please continue to maintain spring weather awareness this month. After all it's May and the height of severe weather season in Oklahoma. I was reminded last week that severe weather can strike unexpectedly. A quiet evening watching a baseball game on television quickly turned into a terrifying a hail storm within a matter of minutes! Please be safe and remain weather aware! The forecast for the week ahead is for unseasonably cool temperatures with moderate chances of thunderstorms and rain. Linked below are the Purcell Public Schools Severe Weather Info and severe weather safety tips from the National Weather Service
- A friendly reminder to all parents and guardians to be sure to check-in to the main office when entering the school building. We welcome all parents to visit our school at any time. However all visitors are required to check in with the main office. Thank you!

On behalf of all PHS staff congratulations to Erica Keen for being named Purcell Public Schools District Teacher of the Year! Here is a tribute from one of her colleagues at the high school:
Ms. Keen always goes above and beyond to keep her students engaged in learning. She is widely respected by her colleagues and her students enjoy her class. Purcell is lucky to have her as a teacher --- Jason Baker, PHS Vo-Ag teacher.
