AEHS Weekly Newsletter
March 17, 2024
Good evening, Titans!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you enjoyed the sun and the relatively warm weather we experienced this weekend. Unfortunately, this week looks like it is going to cool down just a bit so keep your jackets nearby. No worries though, Spring Break starts Saturday!!!
We return to school from Spring Break on Tuesday, April 2. Please keep in mind that MP3 ends soon after on Tuesday, April 9. As always, you want to make sure your student(s) is working with their teachers now to turn in missing work and to bring up their grades before the end of the quarter.
As we shared previously, SAT School Day is Tuesday, March 19. Please remember that Grade 11 students are registered to take the SAT. an due to a modified schedule, 1st period will start at 11:40 a.m. Buses will run on their normal schedule and any students who arrives to school while the SAT is being administered will be assigned to a Study Hall until testing has concluded. Classroom attendance will not be taken until 11:40 a.m. when 1st period starts.
Lastly, I want to encourage you to participate in, and register you child for the Game Changer Conference on April 20. Similar to the Girls' Summit, this conference is geared toward male students, and I am happy to have been asked to help support and plan the spring conference. See below for more information and for the registration link. I also want to emphasize that we are looking for parents to come out to support and attend as well.
Have a great week!

Congratulation to our VAC Students (REPEAT)
Two of our VAC students are among the 25 Maryland Student Artists chosen to be part of the Reginald F. Lewis High School Juried Exhibition. The show will open in May and be up through the Summer. Congratulations to Alanna Sidlowski and Eric Le!
Towing to begin after spring break (REPEAT)
Due to the vast number of unauthorized vehicles parked on campus, beginning Tuesday, April 2, vehicles that are not authorized to park on campus will be towed. Vehicles will be given two warnings not to park on campus, and will be towed on the third violation.
- 1st Violation - Vehicles will receive a written notice on the windshield and the vehicle's make and model, and license plate will be recorded internally
- 2nd Violation - Vehicles will receive an orange violation sticker on their rear window. The vehicle's make and model, and license plate will be recorded internally
- 3rd Violation - The vehicle will be towed to Henry's Wrecker Service (see below)
- Misc. Incidents - Vehicles parked in handicap parking without the proper hang tags, that block fire hydrants or parked in fire lanes, or that block other vehicles in, are subject to being towed without warnings
While we do not desire to tow any vehicles, the vehicles that are parked without authorization are preventing AEHS and MCPS staff and visitors who are authorized to park, from parking on campus.
Please Note: Vehicles that are not authorized to park on campus are not registered with AEHS. Therefore, we do not know who these vehicles belong to. Therefore, we are also unable to contact parents of students who might own these vehicles to warn them about the vehicle being parked without permission. We will, however, make every effort to identify and contact owners prior to receiving a 3rd violation, but this may not be reasonable in most cases.
Please Also Note: Towing will begin April 2. The 1st warning, however, has already been giving to some drivers, which has been shared in previous newsletter. Additionally, only authorized/registered vehicles may park along the "strip," which is the sidewalk along Newport Mill Park. This is also on campus parking and is reserved for staff.
NACAC College Fair (REPEAT)
Albert Einstein High School Juniors will be attending the 2024 MCPS/NACAC College Fair field trip to Adventist HealthCare Fieldhouse in Boyds, Maryland on March 20, 2024. The purpose of this College Fair is to give 11th graders the opportunity to engage college recruiters from colleges/universities from across the country and give students an understanding on where they would like to apply during their senior year.
Please see this document to read all the details. Mr. Trigo will be presenting during the English class period of Juniors this week to go over the purpose of this trip and how to register. He will also be handing out the permission slip forms to students to present to their parents and caregivers to sign and return to the career center.
Asynchronous Learning Day Monday April 22 (REPEAT)
Dear MCPS Families,
This message is to inform you that Monday, April 22 will shift to an asynchronous learning day for all students. The day is designated as a professional development day for teachers and possible make-up day for students in the 2023-2024 Traditional School Year Calendar. Students will engage in learning experiences and complete work asynchronously.
Asynchronous learning allows for flexibility for students to complete assignments with or without the use of technology. Additional time for students to complete assignments is granted for challenges or unforeseen circumstances.
District leaders and central services staff have been planning and communicating with school leaders in preparation for the asynchronous learning day on April 22. Schools will share more details about their asynchronous virtual instruction plans with students and families in mid-March, including directions on how to access resources and additional services.
This day will remain a professional learning day for teachers who will participate in self-directed learning and planning. Telework will be permitted. In addition, teachers will have time to engage in the asynchronous professional learning module with a focus on the Equitable Teaching and Learning Framework. More information will be provided to staff in the upcoming weeks.
There have been three inclement weather school closures so far in the 2023-2024 school year—Jan. 16, Jan. 17 and Jan. 19. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) provides the ability to repurpose certain days as virtual school days, including inclement weather days and staff professional learning days. MCPS has a built-in contingency plan that allows for two emergency school closures needed to make up the third emergency school closure day.
*Note: The calendar for the Innovative Schools, Arcola and Roscoe R. Nix elementary schools, does not change for Monday, April 22, 2024. It remains a non-instructional day for students and a professional learning day for teaching staff.
