A Message To Families From Mr. Peck
Riverview Families,
We are excited to invite parents and families in for spring conferences next week! Please see the link below if you haven't signed up yet and secure a time that works for you to meet with your child's teacher. This conference is a great opportunity for your child's teacher to share some of the amazing growth that has occured this year and to also make adjustments if they need to be made while there is still time for them to have an impact. We always approach conferences as conversations that occur between partners in your child's education and we truly appreciate your willingness to engage with us and help create the perfect conditions for success for your child.
It is wild to think that our 2nd trimester ends next week and that we will be entering the final stretch of our school year soon. We have been busy planning some of the spring events that have become strong Riverview traditions through the years. Dates have been set for our Project Based Learning Showcase (May 9), the spring BOGO book fair (May 8-17), the Senior Walk (May 16), and Grand Day (May 17). We are also making plans for spring assessments so we can try to measure some of the learning that our students have done throughout the school year. Time flies when you are having fun, and we sure have been enjoying being with your children each day and helping them learn.
Best wishes for a great week!
Shawn Peck
Principal

This Week's Mystery Reader Revealed!
Each day during I Love To Read Month, on our morning announcements, a clue is given about who our mystery reader is. Then on each Friday, the identity of the reader is revealed when a video is shared of that person reading a story to them. This week, we learned that our mystery reader has brown hair, played basketball when they were young, considered Michael Jordan their favorite athlete, and loves pickles. Who could it be??? Watch the video below to see who it is and to enjoy a fun story about friendship.

From the RVES PTP: Please Consider Donating to the Tiger Pantry
FEBRUARY is FOURTH GRADE Tiger Pantry donation month!
What Does that Mean?
During the month of February, Fourth Grade students at RVES are encouraged to bring in various non-perishable food items and other necessities for the RVES Tiger Pantry.
A copy of the complete 2023-2024 Donation Schedule information sheet is also attached for reference and available on the RVES PTP website (http://rvesptp.org/tiger-pantry). Students can bring in donations any time, even if it is not their designated month.
What is the Tiger Pantry?
The Tiger Pantry is a mini food pantry located at RVES. The Tiger Pantry helps RVES students who need supplemental nutritional intake when they aren’t in school (evenings, weekends, and school breaks). It is stocked solely by the donations from RVES students and families like yours, is managed by volunteers, and used by any RVES students and their families who need to supplement their pantry at home.
Who Can Use the Tiger Pantry / Where is it Located?
To put it simply, ANYONE can use the Tiger Pantry! There are no questions asked, no forms to fill out, no lines to wait in, no qualifications to meet; you don’t even have to talk to anyone (just help yourself or have your child/children pick up items from the Tiger Pantry to bring home in their backpacks)! Things can get tough, and the Tiger Pantry is here to help!
The Tiger Pantry is a gray metal cabinet located inside the main school lobby (past the main office and) to the right. During school hours you can access the Tiger Pantry by going through the main office. The main doors are unlocked before and after school.
What Items are Needed / Where do we Bring Them?
The Tiger Pantry is always in need of donations! Any non-perishable food items (snack items as well as meal staples) are essential, and hygiene items, cleaning supplies, gift cards and other necessities, are greatly appreciated as well. No prep or low prep foods are ideal to make it easy for kids.
*We are specifically looking for more grab and go protein options right now. Here are some ideas of items that would be most appreciated and meet our student’s current needs: canned chicken, Spam, peanut butter, protein bars, tuna or chicken creation packs, hamburger helper, Dinty Moore microwaveable meals, spaghetti or alfredo sauces.
These items can be sent to school with your child or, if you prefer, you can bring in the donations yourself. There will be collection bins near your child’s classroom and in the front office or vestibule.
For More Information
To learn even more about the Tiger Pantry, including how important it is to have this resource available to RVES students and their families, please visit our RVES PTP website (http://rvesptp.org), our RVES Facebook page, or email TigerPantryRVESPTP@gmail.com. In addition to being extremely vital to keeping the Tiger Pantry stocked, giving to the Tiger Pantry is also a great opportunity to teach our children about kindness and community. So, as always, thank you so much for your support!

New Absence Reporting Option Now Available For Families
We appreciate when you report student absences to us in a timely manner. You can always call the attendance line at 651-460-1605 and either talk with our attendance secretary, Ms. Jen Cole or leave a message on her voicemail. Another new option is to utilize the "Student Absence Form" found on the Riverview website (see image below for location of the tab). If you do choose to submit the absence electronically, there is no need to call. Either way is fine.
Help Ensure That Learners Attend School Every Day To Achieve Academic Success!
Studies show that the impact of missing just 2 days per month of school is significant - especially in the early grades. National researchers recently asked the question "Who can read at grade level after 3rd grade?" and came to the following conclusion:
- 64% of students with good attendance in kindergarten AND 1st grade could read at grade level after their 3rd grade year.
- 43% of students who missed more than 9 days of school in kindergarten AND 1st grade could read at grade level after their 3rd grade year.
- 41% students who missed more than 18 days of school in kindergarten OR 1st grade could read at grade level after their 3rd grade year.
- 17% of students who missed more than 18 days of school in kindergarten AND 1st grade could read at grade level after their 3rd grade year.
Please do what you can to make sure your child is attending regularly. Steps you can take to make this happen are ensuring an early bedtime, encourage routine hand washing, schedule appointments outside of school hours, develop back-up transportation plans, and avoid long vacations when school is not on break. We appreciate your partnership in this important goal!
