Whole Brain Teaching
Active Vocabulary Practice
This is a good description of what happens when a group of students are engaged in learning and practicing vocabulary today. Acting as a team helps build classroom community and promotes positive academic risk taking. Students who are part of a vocabulary community get excited about words and want to make them their own. They help each other learn and cheer each other on. It becomes socially acceptable to achieve academic success.
In Word Nerds: Teaching all students to learn and love vocabulary, you can learn about the following activities to promote team building and learning vocabulary:
Scramble
Counting Dude, Bragging Dude
Word Charades
Vocabulary Rap
Chain Link
