Family Learning Team Meeting - TONIGHT!
Family Learning Team Meeting - Tuesday, March 5th 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Our Virtue for the next two weeks is TACT!
Tact is telling the truth kindly, with consideration for your words will affect others. It is knowing what to say and what is better left unsaid. Tact is thinking before you speak. When you are tactful, you don't tease or point out people's differences to embarrass them. You are as careful about other's feelings as you would like them to be of yours.
Here are some questions to discuss with your child regarding tact:
- When did you feel embarrassed by something someone said tactlessly?
- How do people feel when they have a handicap or physical difference that people tease them about?
- How do you think they would like to be treated?
- What will you do the next time you come across someone who looks different?
- Come up with a tactful way to respond when others start gossiping and you don't want to?
- How could you tell something difficult to your best friend?
- When do you need people to be tactful with you?
- Name three ways you can be more tactful with people in your family.
Thanks for your support!
ELA (English Language Arts) 5.1
Dear Family Member:
This week our class will be focusing on trading. We will discuss how giving things to receive other things is one way to get the things we need.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.
Word Workout
- Words to Know: root words You and your child will try to see how many words you can use in one sentence. You can do this until you can’t think of any more ways to use the words.
- Spelling/Phonics: compound words You will help your child spell the two smaller words that make up each bigger word on the list. See how many words your child spells correctly.
Comprehension: point of view
You will read about two boys who make a trade. Their trade doesn’t work out the way they thought it would. You will help your child identify each character’s point of view.
Science and Social Studies
For our next activity about Asia, we will explore imports and exports. Check out items around your home and see where they were made. Discuss which country and continent items were made in.
