Read Across America Day
WP Real Men Read Program
Curriculum Materials Center
William Paterson University
“Read Across America Day” was first launched in 1988 by the National Education Association (NEA) with the goal of motivating children and adolescents to read and get immersed in the world of books. Read Across America Day is intended to be inclusive to readers of all ages and all communities regardless of race, gender, sexuality, etc., and offers a variety of diverse books for readers to become engaged in reading as well as feel seen.
The “Real Men Read” program was founded by Chicago Public Schools in 2006. Their mission is to raise awareness for student achievement as well as demonstrate that real men do read and value education and learning in pursuit of higher goals. The WP Real Men Read program started in 2020 and WP faculty, staff, and students have read to over 2,400 Pre-K-6 students in just a few short years. A special thank you to the College of Education and the Professors-in-Residence who have welcomed the readers at area pre-schools and elementary schools and facilitated their readings both in-person and virtually.
Celebrate "Read Across America Day" by checking out books to read to students that are currently available at the Curriculum Materials Center at the David & Lorraine Cheng Library at William Paterson University.
