From the Magnet School Director
I wanted to start off by bragging on your children . We decided to offer an opportunity for a few of our new ,soon to be 7th graders, to join us at the Hawk hangout. When I wrote about needing volunteers to show them around I was overwhelmed by the amount of students that approached me in the hallway offering to help. Only two students were able to attend but our Hawks took good care of them. Both girls left with a huge smile on their faces and said that our students were very nice.
We also had one of our very own teaching Dr. Craft how to fly a drone.
Way to represent, Dean!
I am going to start speaking about our Health Fair because it will be here before we know it. Spring is a busy time for everyone so I want everyone to be aware of the date and logistics.
It will be on Saturday April 20th from 9-1 with an hour on each end for set up and take down.
We have an expectation that each student will serve a shift to help us make this successful. Shifts will be 8-10, 10-12, and 12-2
Student work will be on display from the entire school year.
There will be opportunities to donate blood, cereal for the SA Food bank, and a drop off location for Dr. Beichman’s Build a Bears for children in our local hospitals.
We will have Yoga and body pump classes ongoing throughout the morning.
Probably the most helpful for our families- An opportunity to get your student’s sports physical taken care of for athletics next year. A team of doctors come to Hobby and for a small fee get that taken care of for us. It is a great service for our community!
We are still planning and there will be more to come- Please reach out to your child’s English teacher if you know of a Health Care group that would like to be a vendor at our event.
Upcoming Events: March 19th: STEM night at Powell- seeking two students to help Mrs. Heye March 27th HOSA Meeting 4:15-5:15 ( Discussing Build a Bear Fundraiser) April 5th : Air Show STEM EXPO Field Trip

Upcoming Classroom Guidance in March
On March 20, counselors will visit 8th grade MAPS/Comm Apps classrooms to work with 8th graders on learning how to master conflict and become peaceful problem solvers. We look forward to working with our 8th grade Hawks on this very important skill.

Library
As we gear up for School Library Month in April here is some info about how school libraries and librarians impact schools. We are very fortunate to have certified librarians in all NISD libraries and here’s why…
Just a gentle reminder to please be sure to talk to your kids about what they are reading. Parents who discuss literature with their kids help make lifelong readers which increase things like confidence, social emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and compassion.
