Discovery Education's Spotlight on Strategies
3-2-1 Pyramid
Research conducted by Robert Marzano shows that in order to effectively summarize information, students must learn to analyze it at a deep level. This helps them make decisions about what information is extraneous and can be deleted or substituted, and what information is critical and necessary to understanding the topic being studied. Doing this takes repeated practice. The 3–2–1 pyramid organizer helps scaffold students in learning how to do these things.
Website of the week: Print Friendly
Print Friendly is a really, REALLY handy website that takes those pesky HTML pages and makes them print friendly, and savable as pdfs, etc. In addition, there's even a Chrome extension!
Gamified Formative Assessment Resources
If you are not in a 1:1 situation, or iPads are unavailable, UNCW has a website that has Powerpoint game templates that work well for a one computer classroom. Click here for a link to a folder with a few. I will continue to upload videos here, so check back often!
