Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
January 29th-February 2nd
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science:This week we will start our next unit on Astronomy. We will start by learning about Lesson 1: The Sun. On Friday, students will take part in an edible lab. - Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will be reviewing the American Revolution. The first page of the study guide is due Monday. The second page is due on Tuesday. The unit test is Thursday, 1st before the field trip. Students will have a little time to work on their ABC books this week in class, but the majority of that project should be done at home. The project is due Friday, February 2nd.
- Mrs. Thurston's ELA/Math: This week we are continuing our new unit, Reading History – The American Revolution, specifically starting to research history. In writing, we will continue our writing unit, Bringing History to Life, specifically focusing on chapter 2 of our informational writing book. Spelling tests will be given NEXT week starting on Tuesday and ending on Friday. Your child has a tab of their scheduled test day in his/her spelling notebook. Spelling homework is due on their test day. This week in math, we will continue with decimals and line plots.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA/Math: This week we will continue learning about decimals. Students will have a quiz over decimals on Friday. Week 2 of math stars will take place Monday at 11:15. Thank you to all the parents helping with this! In ELA, students will continue with their mystery novels and responses. The responses are based on your child's specific strengths and interests. I'm excited to see what they come up with. These will be due on February 16th. We will also be reading a Jacob's Ladder story about the American Revolution. There is no spelling this week.
Discovery Place Field Trip is Thursday

Matthews Playhouse Money and Forms are Due Friday
The $17 for the "Freedom Train" play and Star Lab, along with the white permission slip is due by Friday.

- Winter Book Fair starts Friday 2/2-2/9
- PTO Mtg Thursday at 9:30. All parents are welcome!
- GT parents: We now have access to www.ixl.com ! This is a great resource to help your child practice math, reading, science, or social studies. Each student has an id. It is their first and last name with the numbers 874. Their passwords are all: ixl . They can access this at home and use it any time as a resource for review. We will be using it periodically in class as well. It's a great website. Check it out!
- Here are a few links that you child can listen to and use a resource to study for their Social Studies test on Thursday. We've listened to these in class, as well.
