For the Parents
With the onset of this pandemic, kids being out of school, business hours being cut, and all of the other problems being thrown at us, life can get challenging. We would like to offer a little guidance through these uncharted waters. Below you will find the link to the Parent's Guide to Resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back when you have every reason to shut down... but you fight on! We would like to take it one chapter at a time so we can concentrate on what each chapter says. We hope you will join us in this study. Please watch the video and begin with Chapter 1: Building the Relationship.
Chapter 1: Building the Relationship
When things get tough we often want to safeguard our kids a leave them out of the conversation or we think they just don't understand. The problem with this way of thinking is that with the World Wide web and even in our homes, our kids see and hear more than we think they do. The best thing to do at times like this is to make sure we are communicating. They are kids so keep it at their level, "What do you know about this?" " What do you think it means?" and then you can explain what you think is enough for them to know and feel comfortable with. If your child isn't a talker, that's okay. Take time to do what interests them- play basketball, play with makeup, learn a tick tok dance. Often times this helps build a relationship and helps them open up to you. Make sure you build that relationship so they always know that you are their safety net. Remember, YOU are what makes your child feel safe in this ever-changing world.
