December 7, 2018
Colts,
This is the time of year that we have so many fun and different types of performances from our Fine Arts and Athletics groups. This morning was a great example of our Colts performing for the student body in our traditional Winter Fine Arts assembly. Our students have so much talent, and I am glad they have many opportunities to display them. If you have not taken advantage of attending any of these events, I encourage you to look at the calendar below and join us. Next Wednesday, at 7:00pm at Colleyville Heritage High School, our Honors Band will be performing some of the material that they will be performing in Chicago at the Midwest Conference. As most know, our CMS Honors Band was one of three middle schools in the country invited to perform at this prestigious international conference. The band has been working hard since the early summer and would be delighted to have you join them at their send-off concert this Wednesday.
As we get closer to final exams and the end of the semester, please encourage your students to take time to rest and seek out support from their teachers as needed. These two things will prepare them for the upcoming exams and will help them be successful. Have a great weekend!

8TH GRADE PARENTS TODAY IS THE DEADLINE!
CMS counselors have met with all 8th grade students. Students were sent home with a paper copy of their 4 year plan for you to review and you should have received an email asking you to review the plan and sign off on it as well. Their 4 year plan is a working document that will be reviewed and changed throughout high school. Students will meet with high school counselors on January 29th to actually make their course selections. We have to have all 4 year plans and endorsements approved by a parent before these meetings with high school counselors occur. If you have not done so yet, please sign off on your child’s plan by Friday, December 7th in one of the following ways:
Sign and return the paper copy of the 4 year plan that was sent home with your child
Log into Skyward and e-sign the career plan and the endorsement (you must e-sign in two places)
Email your child’s counselor and let her know of any changes you would like made to the plan or that you have seen and approve of the plan
8TH GRADE MEETINGS WITH HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS: Counselors from GHS and CHHS will be at CMS on January 29th to meet with our 8th grade students about course selection for their freshman year. These meetings will occur through students’ history classes.
Collegiate Academy Registration for 2019-2020
Attention all 8th graders interested in Collegiate Academy! Collegiate Academy is an Early College High School that is designed for students to earn a diploma and an Associate's Degree simultaneously, and it's all free. The online application for the GCISD Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast is now available. 8th graders must complete an application in order to be considered for acceptance as an incoming freshmen during the 2019-2020 school year. This year, students may access the application directly from the Collegiate Academy website! Due to the success and popularity of this program, it is encouraged that every student who is interested in possibly joining the Phoenix Family to submit an application as soon as possible as space will be limited. The Collegiate Academy application will be available online from November 1, 2018 through January 18, 2019. All applications are due by Friday, January 18th.The link to their school website is: ca.gcisd.net. Applications can also be found in the counseling office.
Credit by Exam
Students, in grades 6 through 12, currently enrolled in the District can receive credit for an academic course or subject area, in which the student has had no prior instruction, with a passing score of 80% or higher on an exam approved by the district’s Board of Trustees. If you’d like more information or want to sign up, please see one of your school counselors. Registration for the February CBE will be open through January 11th. You can also find more information at
