Buttons, Snaps and Zippers!
October 3, 2014
Buttons, snaps, Velcro, zippers are some of the few features children mentioned this week. How do clothes stay on our bodies? Apart from mentioning the buttons, and zippers children also said that in order for clothes to stay on our bodies we need to buy the right size! This week we went over the clothes label/tag, to find out the size. We noticed some tags had number sizes, and some letters (S, M, L, XL) This week we included new and different things in all our centers, and everyone was so excited and engaged! In the dramatic center we added hangers, and organized the dramatic center clothes by size, and if it is boy/girl. We even have shoes! (Ale even brought a cash register!) In the block center we added measuring tape. Children were so excited to build something and after use the measuring tape to see how tall it was! We talked about standard and non standard measurement and did various activities too. As we mentioned how a tailor or fashion designer might use a measuring tape, someone even said that even construction workers use it. In toys and games, we always have a new game available, from button practice, to zipper, to letter matching clothes. In Art we finished our beautiful t-shirt, and started designing how we want our caps to look, so that means that our cap sketch turns into reality next week. This week was busy, but fun. We had visitors, we had our yearbook pictures taken (Thank You Mrs. Regina for helping us out! ) , and so much more.
Teaching with love and dedication,

Letters, words, and numbers!
Next Week
We will move on to our Investigation 2: How do we take care of our clothes?
We will explore the different types of soaps; liquid, bar, powder. We will describe the process of separating light and dark colored clothing before washing them.
You can talk about this with your child at home, so they are ready to share their ideas.
Books of the Week
We read many books throughout the week focusing on features of clothes. We LOVED Pete the Cat and his 4 groovy buttons! Who doesn't love Pete the Cat?
Mrs. Maria Catalina, Maria Corina's mom, came and read us Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons. We then played a game where we had to put Pete the Cat a button without looking. Our friends helped us, and guided us if we needed to go left, right, up! Followed by different activities around the classroom. To end her visit, she shared some delicious CaliCakes treats with all of us!
