Have you ever cut weight before? Psychologically, the toll of an athlete nearly starving their bodies of food & water in the days leading up to the fight dramatically increases the risk of eating disorders, and causes serious hormonal imbalances & mood swings. (Matheny). More than 75% of wrestlers cut weight to get the upper advantage. Cutting weight is difficult, but sometimes pays off in the end. Cutting weight isn’t the healthiest approach for making your weight class in wrestling; however, there are safe ways to do it such as dieting, staying away from carbs, and making sure you stay hydrated. Staying hydrated is the most important thing you can do when cutting weight. More than 75 percent of youth wrestlers have practiced dehydration for weight loss.(Wayne)
Losing weight
When losing more than 2-3 pounds per week, your body is losing water weight witch will turn to muscle and tissue when the body cant won’t lose any more water.
