Review, Preview, Praise and Problems: Oct. 12-15
Progress (OPE)
- Modeled a 2-day Close Reading lesson with text-mapping and coding in a 4th grade classroom.
- Attended grade-level meetings Wednesday. Main discussion points: Buzz progress, interest in a free R2S class from the state, enVision lesson pieces.
- Worked with Literacy Coach on Literacy Night.
- Presented John Collins Journal Writing PD on Tuesday with OPE and a Types 1 & 2 session with OIS on Thursday.
- Gathered ELA enrichment resources for 2nd grade, nonfiction articles and activities for 1st grade, and text structure & features and revising & editing resources for 5th grade.
- Helped set-up book fair.
- Met with Math Coach to learn assessment piece in Google Forms.
- Visited a first grade classroom to see the students working on their very first math journal entry.
- Created a Reading Tips letter for teachers to give parents on conference day. (3-5 grade)
Plan (FOE/OIS)
Some of this is left over from the week before when I was in Columbia.
- Prepare for and Present John Collins Types of Writing professional development Monday (Types 3 & 4).
- Place 100 Book Challenge order.
- Attend State PLC at Keowee on Thursday.
- Observe classrooms using COF.
- Observe RIT band groups.
- Check on Fountas & Pinnell status.
- Compare levels and Lexiles.
- Develop Parent Reading Tips for conference night (k-2); give letters to interested teachers (I have one already developed for 3-5).
- Gather resources for 3rd grade informational text (meaning & context).
- Create printer-friendly versions of the NWEA Learning Continuum.
Praise
- John Collins pds went well this week with more positive feedback. "Journaling" excitement is catching!
- Support for me and my family is overwhelming!
- Friday brought an infectiously happy atmosphere throughout the building. Thanks to Charlotte and her video!
Problems
- As I continue to present the John Collins information, more questions come up that I cannot answer. I am making a list for Henry!
