Every Kindergarten through fifth grade student in the Sauk Prairie district will have a piece of art work on display
WHAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON:
Fifth Grade: Fifth grade artists have been working on a quilled letter. Quilling is also known as paper filigree, paper rolling, mosaic or paper folding (even though it is not really folded, it is curled). Although the origins of quilling are not recorded, some think it began just after the invention of paper, in China in 105AD.
Fifth graders learned how to quill several different shapes, these shapes were then used to design a quilled letter. Artists picked a color scheme from a variety of schemes that they have studied in the past.
Third Grade: In February, third grade artists started a project that has three finished pieces, a clay sculpture, a paper sculpture, and a painting. Artists began by designing a circle and then they started to create that design out of the three different mediums and select a different complementary color group for each portion of the project. We are excited to see how the three different materials can work to represent the same design and to experiment with materials in different ways!
Music
Our Third graders have been working on their up and coming concert for Monday, March 20th. The Fourth Graders continue to work on perfecting playing the recorder. We now can play songs with 5 notes, E, G, A, B, and C. The Fifth graders are now playing duets on their recorders in class.
In addition to this , in our Music Express Magazine, we have learned; The World is Ours, If I Didn't Have You from "Monster's Inc.", learned about American Spirituals, saw a recorded interview with "Black Violin," and listened to He's a Pirate from "Pirates of the Caribbean."
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Jump Rope for Heart:
Our school is participating in a very special community service program to raise funds for the American Heart Association and educate students about the importance of Heart Health. We’re joining the fight against our nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers — heart disease and stroke. Jump Rope for Heart is a fun event that helps our children understand the importance of community service and physical activity while helping to save lives. Our efforts truly make a difference! This year we will be jumping in honor of, Danny Latham, a former Grand Avenue student who has been personally affected by heart disease.
If you choose to fund raise please return envelopes by March 10th. Remember the fundraising part is optional, all students will be jumping during their PE classes because of the educational and physical activity aspects of the event.
- Gymnastics - below are two examples of 5th Grade Floor Routines that were created during our Gymnastics Unit.
