Weekly Message...
Midterms...time to get better!
Midterms are here and many students are nervous about taking them. Here at Seekonk High school we are all trying to make these assessments more meaningful to both the students and teachers. The best way to accomplish that is by making them an authentic application of the knowledge the students learn. After all, Howard Gardner informs us that the only way to demonstrate understanding is by being able to take learned knowledge and apply it to a different situation.
I talk about just a few of the assessments that do just that and the importance of reflecting so that we may keep improving. Have a listen to my weekly message below and subscribe to this YouTube channel for more!
Around School...
The school report card has been published
MCAS scores and what they mean for the high school have been published. Please be sure to read this cover letter and the overview of the school's report card. Much more detailed information may be found at the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's website.
Guidance - Mrs. Whatley
Students received their second semester schedules and student ID cards at lunch time on Wednesday. If your student was absent they can pick up their schedule and ID in the guidance office.
Parent Plusportal: A reminder that student grades are posted online to the portal. If you have not activated your parent account you can ask your student to login and view the information through their account. Report cards for the second quarter will again be posted to the portal for you to review as well as mailed home.
On Thursday, February 2, an admission counselor from Bristol Community College will be at Seekonk High School to meet with interested seniors for an on-the-spot admission day. This is a great opportunity for grade 12 students to learn more about BCC and receive an acceptance (conditional on graduating). To sign up, seniors should see their guidance counselor.
Scholarships are starting to come into the guidance office! We will continue to receive scholarship applications and update the information weekly. Check out this breakdown of the information for scholarships we have to date.
Please remind your senior that we request a 2 week window to process transcript requests for college applications. Please check the due dates and deadlines for the college applications and allow enough time for accurate processing. Thank you
Assistant Principal - Mr. Aguiar
The number of tardies for each student will restart on January 20th. Please be aware of this policy and make every effort to be in school on time every day to maintain eligibility.
Tardy Policy Reminder
Students who accumulate 9 tardies during a semester will lose their extracurricular eligibility for the remainder of the semester. Extracurricular activities include sports, clubs, dances etc.
Students will be ineligible for membership on athletic teams and clubs and will not be allowed to attend school sponsored activities including the prom, other dances, and end of the year activities.
Who we are - getting to know our staff
Various staff members are being asked to share 5 things about themselves in an effort to let everyone know about who makes up Seekonk High School's community. This week is:
Mrs. Michelle Salisbury
Disney-fanatic!!!! I love all things Disney. I have probably been to Disney over 25 times since I was 16 years old. Like Walt Disney said, “You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway,”… who doesn’t like to be a big kid. I love Disney so much that I even ran two Half-Marathons in Disney World… it was the only way I could motivate myself to run 13.1 miles for fun!
Crossfit! When I have time I like to hit the Crossfit gym. It is a great, supportive community. I even had my cheerleading team do Crossfit this summer to get in shape for the season and many of them liked it. It is a workout I wouldn’t be able to motivate myself to do at home, but the sense of accomplishment after finishing what seems like an impossible workout is amazing!
SHS Alumni- I graduated in 1997 from Seekonk High School, and am what I like to call a “Seekonkian for life!” This is a great community and I am proud to teach where I was once a student, and to raise my family in the town I grew up in.
Sibling- I have a younger sister who is also a teacher in Seekonk. She teaches at Martin Elementary School, and often we are mistaken for one another. Often on the first day school students will ask if I am related to Mrs. Medeiros. Not only do we look alike, but act alike too.
Mom- My other career in life is that of being a mom. I am the mother of an amazing little boy by the name of Marshall. My husband and I chose that name, as it is a mix between each of our first names.
English - Mrs. Hellmold
Sports - Mr. Crippen
Congratulations to the Seekonk Boys and Girls Swim team on their convincing triumphs over the Boxers of Brockton High School Tuesday here at the Seekonk Pool. The teams will be training hard for their first conference meet of the year next Thursday at 4 PM at the Seekonk Pool. Swimmers Maddie Paine, Abigail Tenreiro, Lauren Shanahan, Lyla Carvalho, Andrew Silveira, Robert Strycharz, Troy Pina and Blake Anderson have already qualified for the Sectionals and States.
A very special thank you to the Seekonk Grid Iron Club for hosting this year’s Seekonk High School Football Banquet. Over 120 people attended the event held Thursday in the Seekonk High School cafeteria.

Spring Sport offerings include: Boys and Girls Unified Track and Field, Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field, Boys Baseball, Girls Softball, Boys Tennis and Girls Tennis.
Good luck to the Seekonk High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams this Saturday when they travel to Providence, Rhode Island to compete in the “East Coast Invitational.” The following student-athletes will be competing: Cammie Garabian, Audrey Rose Wooden, Ashley Wyrostek, Rachel Pion, Chloe Lunnie, Allison Houle, Amanda Read, Connor Pozzi, Adam Horowitz, Brendan Morales, Ethan Paiva and Matt Silveira.
The 4 and 4 Seekonk High School Girls Basketball will try to stay on the playoff track travelling to Wareham High School this Friday for a key conference game. Freshman Mia DiBiase continues to be the South Coast Conference’s leading scorer. The 3 and 5 Boys team will hope to get back on the winning track when they host the Wareham Vikings.
And finally, do not forget to get out and support the Boys and Girls Basketball teams this Tuesday at home for a special doubleheader against the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons in which the Varsity Girls game will start at 5 PM followed by the Boys Varsity game which will tip off at 6:30.
