Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 2, Week 3 - 7 May 2021
Mother's Day Prayer
Loving God,
We ask you to bless all Mothers.
May they feel the joys of
motherhood every day.
In all their struggle giving us a livelihood,
may your love and compassion be
with them for good.
May every mother feel today,
the pride and beauty of the family they bear.
Through all the pain and sorrow Lord deliver them -
In your strength and grace may they always stay.
Amen
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Mother’s Day
A mother is a teacher in every aspect of a child's development as a whole person. A mother is connected with the growth of a child's spiritual, social emotional, physical and cognitive development. We had the opportunity to thank all mothers and carers in the Mary's Mount Primary School community this week.
On Thursday, a moving liturgy was held in recognition of the love and support you show your children on a daily basis. The staff of Mary's Mount Primary School provided the morning tea goodies and served the many mothers and mother figures who attended the Liturgy morning. The dedicated staff put so much effort into the events this week and I wish to thank them for making the Mother's Day events so special. We have received feedback from the community that you also appreciated the efforts of the staff.
Today, the Year 4 children hosted the assembly and acknowledged the mums in their life. It was a tear jerker! I addressed the community and made reference to TIME being the greatest gift that we can give our mum's on Mother's Day, while holding back tears myself.
On Wednesday and Thursday children had the opportunity to purchase a Mother’s Day gift. I would like to thank the P&F for putting on the Mother’s Day stall event. Mother’s Day is the event that was allocated to the Pre-primary class. I thank the Pre-primary parents and members of the P&F who have volunteered to help at the Mother’s Day stall on Wednesday and Thursday. The children were full of joy as they selected a gift for their special mum!
The month of May is dedicated to Mother Mary. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and an example of how we can be a servant of God. The Year 6 students will be leading the school community in the Rosary for the duration of the month of May. I invite all member from our community to join us. This coming Monday, 11 May the Rosary will be held at 9am due to the running of the Cross Country.

COVID-19 RESTRICTION EASE
At the press conference on Thursday 6 May, the Premier of Western Australia, Hon Mark McGowan, announced a significant easing of restrictions in the Perth and Peel region. Next week we will welcome our school community into the school grounds MASK FREE. We will as a school community continue to adhere to physical distancing and COVID Safe practices.
Please continue to check the list of potential exposure locations online regularly at
COMMUNITY MASS
As a Catholic school community we are committed to building strong relationships with our parish, Holy Family. This year we have introduced Community Masses. This is an opportunity for children form our school to actively participate in a parish mass. On Saturday evening the Year 2 and Year 6 students from Mary's Mount Primary School will be hosting mass. Our school choir will be singing and leading the musical aspect of the mass. Please come along and joyfully engage in this prayerful experience. We look forward to seeing you at Holy Family Parish on Saturday 8 May at 6pm.
WASTE SORTED AWARDS
A small group of staff and the leadership team attended the Waste Sorted 2021 Awards dinner on Wednesday evening. The evening was spent celebrating those in the wider community who are committed to diverting waste from landfill. We felt proud to be a finalist for the third year in a row and to be in the company of organisations leading the way in waste management. Our little school on the hill received a Highly Commended Award for our commitment to waste minimisation and litter reduction practices in our daily school and home lives.
We wish to thank Mrs Belinda Henderson and our student Green Team, past and present for leading the way!
ABORIGINAL PERSPECTIVES
As part of our whole school initiative to increase our knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Islander perspectives, we are introducing the Wanjoo (Welcome) song to our school assemblies as part of the Acknowledgment of Country. Candy McKay, our Transforming Lives Education Officer (TLEO) visited all classes today to help the children learn the correct pronunciation of the words in the song. The children were engaged and enjoyed this learning opportunity. We look forward to the Wanjoo song being a part of our assemblies moving forward.

P&F UPDATE
Special thanks to those parents who joined us for our P&F Meeting on Tuesday. We had a good turn out and made lots of decisions - which is great! We formally approved funding for the full suite of initiatives that will constitute the 2021 Highway Heroes programme, as well as agreeing to fund the purchase of plants for our school Bush Tucker Garden and gardening items required to establish a new Harmony Garden at the front of the school. We see great value in supporting these school initiatives and are excited about the impact that it will have on our students now and those who attend our school in the future.
A reminder that our annual Tuition Fees Raffle is open for just another 3 weeks so make sure you grab a ticket to be in the running for a great prize. Tickets are available through the Quickcliq website, through the trybooking website and by clicking on the QR code on the flyer that was sent home last week.
It was wonderful to see so many happy children at our Mothers Day Stall this week, which was kindly coordinated by our Pre-Primary parents. Thank you for your support of this event - we hope all of our mums and grand-mums have a wonderful Mothers Day this Sunday.
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee
