What's Happening at DATA
Hello DATA Families,
It is testing season! This week our 9th and 10th grade students tackled the English I and English II EOC/STAAR exam. Next week, our 10th grade students will test their Biology knowledge and 11th grade will stretch their recall for all things US History. I know they have all been well-prepared and did their very best. Seniors had a great opportunity to make a few more lasting memories off campus at Main Event and Santikos theaters for their senior class field trips.
And, there was the eclipse! Not quite what we were expecting but at least we had a chance to get outside and get to see a little bit of the event.
Below, I have listed out our testing dates. Please do your best to not schedule appointments during these dates to avoid having your student have to make up any of these exams during the summer or even next fall. Attendance has started to decline over the past several weeks. Please remember that Texas attendance requires that students must be in a class at least 90% of the time in order to receive credit for the class; even if the student has brought a note from you the parent and is excused. If a student has more than 10 absences, they will lose credit. Please check Skyward and review your student's attendance. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Adapting to life after high school IS going to be stressful. Being prepared is key. How will your student know about available resources and not be afraid to reach out? How can you help them become independent?
We'll begin our program with a video featuring Adrienne Murphrey, Parent and Family Outreach Coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin. She'll share five tips to prepare your students for their first year post-secondary: safety, adulting, mental health, time management, and parent and family associations.
Following the video, we'll have discussion questions. A panel of recent alumni and Roosevelt faculty will also join to share their experiences and answer questions.
Tutoring Opportunities
It's Almost Science Fair Time!
VOE Information
For any student who will be needing a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) for their driver's license, they must already have their appointment scheduled. Additionally, the VOE request must be submitted at least one week in advance of the appointment. All VOEs are requested from Ms. Tiller (located in the DATA building). Please do not submit your request more than one week in advance.
To be eligible for a VOE, students must be currently enrolled in school AND the student must have received CREDIT for all classes in the prior semester. If credit was not received, then the school must review the attendance history and determine that the student was there 90% of the time each class was offered.
Service Learning
