PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS
The upper grade classes at Clarks Creek have been busy working on their cardiovascular endurance and their muscle strength with a variety of activities. The 4th and 5th grades have started their mile card program where they spend 12 minutes down at the track, jogging and walking, trying to complete one mile. The students will work on their mile cards one time each month and try their personal best to complete 10 miles by the end of the year. Parents, cheer them on! We have also been working on Scrabble Island Tag where the classes have different fitness sayings that they are working together to spell out. Our classes usually start out with some kind of warm up activity and we have worked hard on our core strength so far. Do you know what a “plank” is? If not, please ask you child, they should know!
The lower grades have been busy working on personal and general space activities while working on many locomotor skills such as skipping, galloping, and jogging. Many of our fun games such as Animal Catcher and Mean Bubble help us move safely through space and not to invade someone else’s personal space. Ask your child where their personal space is and if it moves with them? They should know the answer to this question. Second grade has also worked on moving in different pathways, ask them if they can name the 3 different pathways we have worked on.
Parents please make sure that your child has a chance to “play sixty” every day!
