CSD Board Briefing
Cambrian School District, February 22, 2021
Return to In-Person Learning
Dr. Andrews presented the requested update on the status of the district’s plan for return to in-person learning, per the Board’s direction from the February 4th meeting.
The Governing Board of Trustees discussed the most up-to-date information presented as it relates to the timing of reopening. Dr. Andrews highlighted the current CDTA Teacher survey results; out of 136 total teachers responding, 117 teachers would voluntarily return in the Red Tier and 19 would voluntarily return in the Purple Tier. In regard to classified staff surveyed, out of 83 total classified staff responding, 28 say they are ‘comfortable’ returning, 46 say they are ‘concerned’, and 9 are “indifferent”.
As of February 17, 2021, the adjusted COVID case rate in Santa Clara County was 10.9 per 100,000 residents. In order to move to the Red Tier, the number of adjusted cases must be less than 7 per 100,000. Based on the direction of the Governing Board, Superintendent Dr. Carrie Andrews would continue to communicate the timeline for reopening when the Santa Clara County COVID-19 status move to the Red Tier and the specific date for students to return to campus by grade level.
The Board requested that Return to In Person Learning and Instruction be on every board agenda for the remainder of the year to adapt if needed to changing information. If Santa Clara County remains in purple March 4th the Board will continue to discuss possible next steps. When that occurs, all CSD families will be informed accordingly. Measure R: Facility Projects Prioritization (Phase 1)
The Governing Board of Trustees approved the Measure R Phase 1 facilities projects, presented by Rick Kramer from RGM Kramer.
An overview of Measure R Bond was presented, including an updated Needs Assessment and recommended projects list for Phase 1 of the Measure R Bond Program. Phase 1 of Measure R will begin with the sale of the First Series of bonds for $15 million. The Board discussed the proposed projects to be included in the first phase, which equate to approximately $13.5 million. These funds will be designated toward HVAC system replacements at all sites (Summer 2022), gas line replacement for Price Middle School (Summer 2021) and the installation of electronic marquees at Sartorette and Farnham Elementary Schools (Summer 2021). Additional project items and prioritization of subsequent bond sales will be discussed at a future Board Study Session.
