Knights News
April 8 - 12
Dear Families,
The upcoming solar eclipse on April 8 will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A reminder that tomorrow is a PA day and there is no school for students. We can't wait to hear about everyone's eclipse experiences on Tuesday.
Solar Eclipse Viewing Information
In the KFL&A area, the eclipse process is expected to start at approximately 2:09 p.m. and end with the full re-emergence of the sun at 4:34 p.m. In the Kingston and Napanee areas, the sun will be fully blocked between 3:22 p.m. and 3:25 p.m. (the exact time will depend on your location). Not all areas in the KFL&A region will experience a total solar eclipse.
Here are some tips to help your family enjoy the event safely:
- Looking at the sun without proper eye protection can cause permanent vision damage. Solar eclipse glasses that meet international standard ISO 12312-2 are needed to safely view the eclipse.
- Regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, will not protect your eyes.
- When using eclipse glasses, ensure they are not scratched or damaged.
- Don’t use a regular camera or phone lens to view the eclipse. It can hurt your eyes and your device.
- It is important to supervise children during solar viewing activities to ensure they don’t look at the sun without proper protection.
- Trained Queen’s University Eclipse Ambassadors will be present at viewing sites in the Kingston area to facilitate safe viewing of the eclipse. An eclipse viewing event will be held in Napanee at the Strathcona Paper Centre soccer field.
- Traffic congestion is anticipated on April 8 due to the number of expected visitors. Choose a viewing location close to your home or plan to use active transportation.
- Kingston Transit will be free on April 8 to support travel to eclipse viewing sites and reduce traffic congestion.
Where can I get solar eclipse glasses?
- Queen’s University is providing solar eclipse viewing glasses to school students across our region and a limited supply to Kingston Frontenac Public Libraries.
- At Bath, the eclipse glasses were distributed this Thursday/Friday.
- Tourism Kingston has solar eclipse glasses for purchase.
- The Lennox and Addington Library system will be running “Engage with the eclipse” workshops leading up to the eclipse with participants receiving free solar eclipse glasses. Registration for the sessions is required.
- If purchasing solar eclipse viewers online, please do so through an approved supplier.
What if I don’t have solar eclipse glasses?
- If appropriate eye protection is not available, alternate viewing strategies should be considered, such as an eclipse box or watching a Live stream.
If you or your child experience any vision changes after the eclipse, contact your optometrist promptly. You can also contact 811 to get health advice from a registered nurse.

Graduation Rotation
On Friday, our Grade 7 and 8 classes got to see a presentation from Graduation Rotation. This is an excellent organization founded by one of our very own Bath Parents that provides an environmentally and cost efficient way to get a dress or suit for Grad. Please see the attached information and ask your child for more details. We hope that many of you will take advantage of this opportunity. The first event dates are starting this week!
Basketball
Our Junior Boys and Girls basketball teams continue to train and play. It is amazing to see their skills develop in such a short time. Both teams play games on Wednesday of this week. A huge shout out to our coaches for making these opportunities possible.
April 9 - 14 Spring Pitch-In!
Spring Pitch-In Kingston is a community clean-up with participants that includes individuals, workplaces, and community organizations. At Bath PS, each class will be spending a period outside this week, doing their part to clean up our schoolyard and then hitting the pitch for a game of soccer baseball.
Staff/Student dodgeball game
The staff/student dodgeball game is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday. The teachers are ready to play team 4. May the best team win!
Kindergarten registration
A reminder that Kindergarten registration for the 24/25 school year is now open. If you have children at home who will be coming or know of families in our community that are planning on registering, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible. Knowing our numbers ahead of time helps our planning.
Looking forward to a great week ahead!

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for both you and your student. Kindergarten is a wonderful experience and your student’s next phase on their journey of learning.
We are now accepting new student registrations for this September 2024. If your student is four or five by the end of December, now is the time to register.
We are committed to supporting you every step of the way. Our dedicated staff are here to assist you throughout this process. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the school.
Concussion Protocol
In order to follow the LDSB concussion protocol, and in an abundance of caution, any time a student takes a blow to the head, face or neck, or a blow to the body that transmits a force to the head, we must suspect a concussion, Form 142-1 Tool to Identify a Suspected Concussion will be completed, and parents will be contacted.
If after a bump to the head, if your child exhibits one or more worrisome signs or symptoms, parents will also be asked to complete Form 142-4 Documentation of Medical Examination indicating that their child is symptom free and able to “return to learn” and then to “return to physical activity,” 24 hours later.
Should your student be diagnosed with a concussion, please alert the school right away, and complete and return the below documents to the school:
Form 142C4 Documentation for a Diagnosed Concussion - Return to Learn/Return to Physical Activity Steps 2a-6 (this is a process and will take time to work through between school and home)
We take suspected concussions/diagnosed concussions very seriously and we appreciate your support in ensuring the safety of your student. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
School Trips and Volunteers
Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
Triboard Transportation
Tis the season for bus cancellations....As the weather gets colder, families should ensure they are signed up to receive direct notifications, either by email, or Tri-Board’s app. Delays and cancellations are also posted to Tri-Board’s Twitter account.
Bath School Advisory Council
Our fabulous parent council is looking for new members! If you would like to be a part of this great team, please come to our next meeting date is March 25th at 6:30. We are looking forward to meeting in the library. Please let us know if you can make it and if you will require childcare.
