A Note from My Laptop to Yours
November 2013
Dear Parents,
November is here and it is hard to believe that two months have passed since school started. This will be a busy month with one of our biggest events...the Scholastic Book Fair. The book fair is a wonderful opportunity to fill your children's bookshelves with good quality literature while also supporting our school library. The fair will be open from 8 am to 3 pm starting Monday, November 11th until Friday, November 15th. From preschool to adult books and in English and Spanish, we will have something for everyone.
In the LMC, 3rd-5th grade students have been learning about fiction and nonfiction, the Dewey Decimal Classification system and our online catalog system, Follett Destiny. The fourth and fifth graders are creating commercials highlighting different sections of the Dewey Decimal system. They have also enjoyed learning some new songs about this helpful organizational tool. I have attached their favorite one below.
First and Second graders have been discovering all the great books that live in the nonfiction section. We have been exploring the methods of organizing books in the library and how to keep them organized on the shelves. PreK and Kindergarten students have been enjoying story times with Halloween books and songs.
My favorite holiday, American Thanksgiving, is coming soon. Students are being asked to think of a book that they are thankful for. These book titles are being posted outside the library on a bulletin board. Please stop by to see if yours is on the board.
May you and your family enjoy this month and have plenty to be grateful for.
Best regards,
Jennifer Gibson-Millis a.k.a. Mrs. G-M
