A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Saludades Compadres,
We have made it to the Spring Break time of year! I know many of you will still be involved during this break in your spring sport. Still make time for yourself and your loved ones. Self care is most important for your well-being to allow you to continue to impact your players and colleagues. As you all move into the next phase of your off season and get closer to end of soccer, track, golf, and tennis, let’s be mindful that we owe it to our athletes to give them our best no matter the sport or season. Always remember your why.
This being the my third and last year as president, I’m going to take these last few newsletters to touch on topics that are important to the continued growth of our association and members moving forward into the future. This month’s topic is Humility. In my experiences and observations, there are times where people have benefited from the help of others, and we all have benefited from help. Myself included, we sometimes forget about the help of others and get full of ourselves and make it about ourselves. As I have become wiser, I’ve try to stay in touch with those people by checking up on them and saying thank you for all they have done for the advancement of my career and personal growth. I say this because there will be a time in our life where we are not the main person in the program, team, or family. We will refer back to how we felt when our names were in people's mouths. As we move forward from this point, remember what it felt like to be the assistant or bottom person on the totem pole. As you move up and when you're at the top of the pole, remember those who helped you move up and those who are below you trying to get to the top as many of us our. LIFT AS YOU CLIMB! Being retired now going on six months, remember it’s always better to be “Gone and not forgotten instead of forgotten and not gone.”
In closing, I want to congratulate all the coaches who have been selected as HTXHSFBCA Spotlight Coaches of the Week including a new Head Coach and some coordinators making a difference at their schools. I also want to congratulate all those with Regional/State qualifiers and champs (Swimming/Wrestling/Basketball/Powerlifting) and all of our ROCK Mentors/Mentees. I implore all members to continue to advocate for the advancement of our members to not just have a seat at the table, but to be at the head of the table. Being at the head of the table allows you to control the narrative and make decisions regarding hiring, policy, and the direction of an organization.
As Always Nos Vemos,
Armando Jacinto
President, HTXHSFBCA
