Learning Culture
If a new visitor walked into your classroom without anyone present, what would the classroom environment say about the learning that occurs? Is there examples of student work? Student Data ownership? And evidence of learning?
If a student were asked about what was the most interesting thing he learned in January? Or what learning successes were celebrated in the classroom? What would they say?
As we move past the midpoint in teaching kids this year, we need to reflect on the Learning Culture we have established with our students. What are positive things about the culture we have created? And what are things that we might spend time improving?
We should also reflect on what role students are demonstrating during the learning process. They should be participating in the learning and not just quietly listening to the teacher and just 'absorbing' information.
We will continue to focus on Teacher Driven Instruction (replacing textbook/worksheet driven instruction) and give our students an active role in their learning.
Onward!
