Events From Jackson's Presidency

Trail of Tears
When Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, it allowed the US government to move the Indians on to land west of the Mississippi River. The Cherokees refused to move and the Supreme Court agreed that they didn't have to move. Jackson ignored the Supreme Court's ruling and moved them anyway. The Georgia militia got all the Cherokees and pushed them west. This journey was called the Trail of Tears. It was a hard journey and the weather conditions were bad. Out of 16,000 Indians, 4,000 died.
Nullification Crisis
When the tariff of 1828 and 1832 were passes the south was upset because they relied on imported goods. Specifically South Carolina was so upset that they nullified the tariffs. They even threatened to secede from the nation if the government interfered with their nullification. Congress decided to pass the Force Bill to make South Carolina pay their taxes. Henry Clay then made the Compromise Tariff of 1833 which was a lower tariff and favored by both the North and South.
Killing the National Bank
Jackson didn't like the National Bank because he thinks it favors wealthy man and is unconstitutional. Congress presents a bill to renew the National Bank, but Jackson veto's it. The National Bank still had 4 years left before it had to close but Jackson didn't want to wait that long so he transfers all the money to state banks and kills the National Bank.

Cherokee Response
I HATE ANDREW JACKSON!!!! He forced us to move off of OUR land even though he wasn't supposed to. The trip to Oklahoma was horrible and he never gave us the things he promised. So many of my family and friends died on that trip and he doesn't even care. We were in America first, we should get to keep our land!
Northerner Response
Andrew Jackson is great! Since the tariff of 1828 and 1832, I have been making so much money! The South is being forced to buy our goods instead of imported ones and business is booming. I'm a little upset that in The Compromise Tariff of 1833 they made the tariff lower but I'm still making more money than before.
